Themes Team Meeting Notes – October 11, 2022

Hello everyone. The meeting notes are from the themes team discussion on October 11, 2022. The themes team meets second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 15:00 UTC.

1. Weekly updates

The themes team published weekly updates about tickets and HelpScout emails. Here is the theme statistic for the past 7 days. The most current stats can be found here.

  • 412 tickets were opened
  • 428 tickets were closed:
    • 418 tickets were made live.
      • 39 new Themes were made live.
      • 379 Theme updates were made live.
      • 0 more was approved but is waiting to be made live.
    • 10 tickets were not-approved.
    • 0 ticket was closed-newer-version-uploaded.

BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Themes Stats

  • Total 157 block themes in the repository. 

2. Update URI theme headerHeader The header of your site is typically the first thing people will experience. The masthead or header art located across the top of your page is part of the look and feel of your website. It can influence a visitor’s opinion about your content and you/ your organization’s brand. It may also look different on different screen sizes. in WordPress 6.1

WordPress 6.1 introduces a new Update URI theme header field. This update will prevent naming conflicts with third-party themes when updating. More detail

3. index.php file is optional in Block themes

With WordPress 6.1, index.php is now optional for the Block themes. The theme check pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. has been updated to reflect the change.
