Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Editor: Top 5 embeds blocks are now directly available in the block picker.
  • Other projects: We added access to Blogging Reminders from Notification settings, shipped the new Edit Comment component to WPAndroid. On WPiOS, we improved the my site comments list: comments page is now correctly preserved across navigation to other screens, and fixed the loading and empty states rendering in iPad layout.
  • Infrastructure: We upgraded Gradle and applied the new modularization structure into various Android libraries.

Editor: Inline embed previews for WordPress, Instagram, and Vimeo. Fixed a regression in the Image block where the rounded corners setting was not applying inside the editor.
  • Other projects: We fixed an issue on iOS that was preventing media library images and videos to be shared.
  • Infrastructure: We continued to work on CI migrationMigration Moving the code, database and media files for a website site from one server to another. Most typically done when changing hosting companies., iOS UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with.   • Full Site Editing: Shipped the new experimental Gallery block.
  • Other projects: We added a pull to refresh to My Site on iOS, to update site title, icon and address when they change somewhere else. Added the “Share WordPress with a Friend” feature on Android too, and shipped the new Edit Comment component.
  • Infrastructure: We continued to work on the CI migrationMigration Moving the code, database and media files for a website site from one server to another. Most typically done when changing hosting companies. and moved many jobs from CircleCI and Jenkins to BuildKite. We completed the upgrade to Gradle 7 and the WPiOS Login tests project. Editor: Added Help menu option that teaches users about the block editor. Fixed an issue with the slash inserter suggestion icons.
  • Full Site Editing: Shipped improvements to the Color settings.
  • Other projects: Time selection for Blogging Reminders, and “Share WordPress with a Friend” feature! On WPiOS we addressed visual glitches with the Site Settings screen scroll performance, the Reader’s featured images, and deleted comments. We also fixed an issue that prevented plugins to be scrollable and actionable on iOS.

  • Full Site Editing: Global Style Support was shipped on Android too, and an adjustment on the image size of Theme Images was made for more optimal download speeds on Android and iOS.
  • Other projects: Improvements in how comments are shown on the Reader and My Site. Fixed the issue where the “Contact support” and “My Tickets” buttons weren’t working properly.
  • Infrastructure: Improve fastlane scripts consistency among the repos, work on the automated login tests, the CI migrationMigration Moving the code, database and media files for a website site from one server to another.   • Full Site Editing: Global Style Support for FSE sites was shipped on iOS (there is an ongoing investigation on Android before turning the feature on). Editor: Rolled out (50% of users) a block picker tooltip inviting users to add blocks. Fixed some bugs related to border radius settings and slash inserter.
  • Other projects: Blogging Reminders on both Android and iOS, and reinstated the blue iOS and Android icons after Pride month ending. Fixed a crash on Android when uploading webp images.
  • Infrastructure: Good progress on the new CI project and using BuildKite, the WordPress login tests and continued to fix and improve our release tools.

Editor: We fixed a Gallery block caption issue with text formatting as well as a scrolling bug within the editor on iOS and the Floating toolbar.
  • Other projects: We fixed “What is my site address?” dialog image, and a layout issue with the new My Site headerHeader The header of your site is typically the first thing people will experience. The masthead or header art located across the top of your page is part of the look and feel of your website. It can influence a visitor’s opinion about your content and you/ your organization’s brand. It may also look different on different screen sizes. on iOS. On both platforms we updated the icons to Spectrum to celebrate Pride Month. Fixed a few issues in the Reader.
