Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor: Added Support for the smaller heading levels.
  • Full Site Editing: Cross Platform style system first prototype completed. Progress made on InnerBlock UI enhancements. Media & Text is close to merge.
  • Offline Support: We have merged offline publishing to develop on Android and are wrapping up the last few issues in the project on iOS.
  • iOS 13 Updates: We continued to stabilize dark mode and we’re now mostly finished with that project.
  • Android: We continued working out the details of dark mode and semantic color. We are making improvements to the information architecture of the app.
  • Infrastructure: We are moving closer to iOS installable builds.

Mobile Team Update – September 10th

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor: Media&Text block merged, several bug fixes, ~22% of posts are now published with the block editor! 
  • Full Site Editing: Continued cross platform Gallery block implementation, and started Inner Block UI enhancements.
  • Offline Support: Almost completed in Android, in iOS we continue to uncover inconsistencies in our Media support and addressing issues as they appear.
  • iOS 13 Updates: Big push to ship Dark Mode.
  • Android only: Color tech debt in advance of Dark Mode implementation, changes to the Me tab for the Improved Information Architecture project, started work to enable audio uploads.
  • Infrastructure: Support for iOS 13/XCode 11. Wrapped up the Android tooling improvements project, refinements in app screenshots and related tools.

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor:  Numerous fixes in preparation for Open Beta. 17.6% of posts are now published with the block editor! 
  • Full Site Editing: The team wrapped up the technical explorations on cross platform development and started working on the implementation items for cross platform Gallery block.
  • Offline Support: We are completing the last remaining tasks on Offline Support, and we plan to complete the project this sprint.
  • iOS 13 Updates: Dark Mode is here! We’ve also made several compatibility improvements across the app.
  • Infrastructure: We now have installable builds for Android PRs.

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor:  The first InnerBlocks-based block is working: Media&Text 🎉
  • Full Site Editing:  The team investigated several potential solutions for rendering and styling cross-platform components, informing the appraisal of our current options.
  • Offline Support: We wrapped up phase 1 of offline support improvements by implementing offline publishing on both platforms, and we completed the removal of local previews on Android and improved the preview experience on iOS.
  • Infrastructure: We made improvements to the fastlane configure tooling and our UI tests, we shipped new screenshots for the WordPress apps.

Mobile Team Update – July 31

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor: The block editor is now auto-enabled upon opening a post that contains blocks. UX improvements for adding new blocks, bug fixes for image captions on Android.
  • Full Site Editing: Working on a proof of concept for a cross-platform Gallery block.
  • Offline Support: Implemented offline publishing on iOS, added support for setting the featured image for a post while offline on Android, and improvements to offline error messages on both platforms.
  • Infrastructure: Wrapped up the initial UI test project and continued to improve release tooling.

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor: Video block enabled on Android, mobile unit tests on Gutenberg CI.
  • Full Site Editing: Kept working on the plugin development environment.
  • Offline Support: Continued adding improvements to the offline posting experience across numerous edge cases.
  • Infrastructure: Made several improvements to the UI tests, in particular for the block editor. They are nearly completed with some documentation to finish up. More release tooling updates in WordPress Android.

Mobile Team Update – July 2nd

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor: We are now reusing even more high level Gutenberg components. We worked on various fixes improving lists, quotes, and text editing performance.
  • Full Site Editing: A new team focused on FSE kicked off work and is working on setting up some priorities for upcoming blocks, and collecting data to pave the way for the MVP project.
  • Offline Support: We posted our Offline Principles in the mobile blog and we continue to improve the offline posting experience.
  • iOS: You can now customize the app icon, to do so head to Me->App Settings ->App Icon and chose your favorite.
  • Infrastructure: We submitted a React Native fix, and updated the screenshot setup. WordPress and Gutenberg UI tests are now running on CI with improved speed and stability.

Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • Block Editor: Video(iOS), Quote, and More blocks graduated to public. Copy/paste improvements, device rotation tests.
  • Offline Support: More UI/UX improvements. Still working in the next iteration of the Offline Guidelines, which will be published soon.
  • Infrastructure: Both platforms migrated to Sentry for crash reporting. More Gutenberg UI tests added.

  • Block Editor: Quote block support, UI for invalid blocks, nested list creation, and regression fixes.
  • Offline Support: Offline Posting is seeing steady progress in both platforms with incremental improvements on every release.
  • Infrastructure: More progress on the UI testing project, improvements on Gutenberg UI to make it more testable, finished implementing network mocking for both platforms.

  • Block Editor:  Video block support, rich-text image captions, a11y of “unsupported block”, efforts to update to latest Gutenberg master.
  • Offline Support: Initial improvements to the Offline Posting Experience, updated the Offline Principles.
  • Infrastructure: We made a lot of progress on the UI testing project, and we shipped WordPress iOS launch time improvements. We updated the build instructions for iOS and Android.
  • Marketing: We are working on some assets requested by Google to promote the WordPress app to Pixelbook users.
