Highlights for the last two weeks:

  • BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Editor: Big performance improvement on Android and various other fixes.
  • Full Site Editing: Fix for Android multiple image uploads, modal layout picker enhancements and fixes, and a theme color bug fix.
  • Other Projects: tackling some modernization aspects of the UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing., fixed a crash on iPad when tapping the Reader Detail menu button, and added categories to the pre-publishing bottom sheet.
  • Infrastructure: new iOS push notification system, screenshots automation improvements for Android, and iOS release automation tooling improvements.

The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers).   • Full Site Editing: A new modal layout picker is now displayed when creating a new page.
  • Other Projects: Fixed some issues with login prologue on Android. 
  • Infrastructure: We are improving the apps modularization in Android, as well as the repositories linting.

  • Other Projects: We fixed a number of iPad display issues, and we improved the flow and error messaging when adding a new site to the app.
  • Infrastructure: We moved WordPressiOS to XCode 12 and made some CI improvements.

Editor: We now have more reliable editor release automation scripts and we’ve improved several block settings.
  • Full Site Editing: We fixed a bug when duplicating the image block, fixed removing an invalid image from a gallery, and fixed a crash when using the color palette. 
  • Infrastructure: We worked on improvements to how we do modularization on WordPress Android.

Editor: We fixed a couple of issues related to iOS 14, and polished several flows.
  • Full Site Editing: Link to existing post/page shipped, bug fixes and color improvements, progress on the layout picker. 
  • Other Projects: We made more improvements to several login scenarios. On Android the Media Picker consolidation adds a new source type and wew app bars work was completed.
  • Infrastructure: Usual releases and beta testing, plus improvements to the GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ PR bot and Android modularization.

  • Full Site Editing: Shipped: Wide/full width support for Group, Cover, Image blocks; Rounded image support for Image block. Progress on the Layout picker and link to existing content.
  • Other Projects: More Unified Login & Signup flows are shipping in WPiOS 15.7. Android Media Picker now supports extra file types, has search, and UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing. updates.
  • Infrastructure: Usual releases and beta testing, and also worked on a massive improvement to Android dependency management. Started work on Xcode 12 support for iOS.

Editor: Shipped fix for editing classic blocks using the unsupported block editor. Began adding offline support for inserting mentions.
  • Full Site Editing: Shipped Gallery image editing, Navigation inside BottomSheet, Slider improvements to reflect changes immediately, Undo/Redo improvements. Progress on the Layout picker, wide/full-width support.
  • Other Projects: Unified Login & Signup is in progress for the iOS app. On Android we analyzed the results after launch and we’re happy to see more self-hosted users successfully adding a site to the app.
  • Infrastructure: Decreased trend in crashes for the iOS app thanks to sustained maintenance efforts. For the Android app, we integrated encrypted logging, and implemented automated delivery of new app screenshots.

  • Full Site Editing: Image editing in Cover blocks shipped, image editing in Gallery is in progress. General improvements in Media-Text and Cover blocks. New feature to link to existing content and new percentage settings in the Column block.
  • Other Projects: Unified Login & Signup is shipping with version 15.4 of the Android app. Reader improvements project in progress. The work on audio and document upload has started.
  • Infrastructure: Encrypted logging implementation is finished. It will be released with the next versions of the apps. Release builds are now automated in continuous integration for the Android app.

  • Other Projects: New login & signup is in testing on Android, development continues for iOS. The new feature announcement project is wrapping up localization and working on tooling for configuring announcements.
