  • BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Editor: Some improvements on the Audio block, and added extra cover block media settings.
  • Full Site Editing: Preventing the deletion of already published homepages and fixed a few issues related to links selection.
  • Other Projects: Nothing to note here!
  • Infrastructure: Continuing to streamline our beta release process to allow it to scale.

Editor: Added support for Audio block, anchors in heading blocks and support for restricting blocks to single instances have been added. 
  • Full Site Editing: Worked on iOS mobile previews and fixed an issue with media uploads with ongoing uploads.
  • Infrastructure: Made progress on composite gutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/-mobile project and tidying up our release scripts.

  • Full Site Editing: Made improvements to auto-scrolling when the keyboard appears.
  • Other Projects: Fixed a few issues in Reader on Android.
  • Infrastructure: Made progress on composite gutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. Editor: Added ability to move blocks to top/bottom via long-pressing the block mover icons and removed the info popup on editor start.
  • Full Site Editing: Miscellaneous bug fixes and legacy code cleanup.
  • Other Projects: Menu filters on WPiOS now remember their previous selection when switching menu items. Continued efforts to update WPiOS minimum build target to iOS 13.
  • Infrastructure:  Continued work on Android Modularization and began efforts to use Swift packages in WPiOS.

Editor: Added support for the file block, fixed an issue with removing the heading block when it was empty, improved gallery block uploads when the editor is closed, and added the duplicate post functionality.
  • Full Site Editing: We refined the homepage picker and we fixed previewing the homepage from the editor.
  • Other Projects: Several bug fixes and small improvements across the aps.
  • Infrastructure:  We enabled an iOS localization linter.

Editor/Full Site Editing: We’ve updated the Separator block to extend to the edges, and added support for background and text color in the Group, Paragraph, and Quote blocks.
  • Other Projects: We added categories to the pre-publishing sheet and we fixed a lot of bugs all over the apps.
  • Infrastructure: We investigated existing issues with localization in WordPress iOS and GlotPress tooling, and we made numerous tooling fixes and updates for localization, build issues, and more.

Editor: Big performance improvement on Android and various other fixes.
  • Full Site Editing: Fix for Android multiple image uploads, modal layout picker enhancements and fixes, and a theme color bug fix.
  • Other Projects: tackling some modernization aspects of the UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing., fixed a crash on iPad when tapping the Reader Detail menu button, and added categories to the pre-publishing bottom sheet.
  • Infrastructure: new iOS push notification system, screenshots automation improvements for Android, and iOS release automation tooling improvements.

Editor: Improved block inserter accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility), and better discoverability for the unsupported block editor.
  • Full Site Editing: A new modal layout picker is now displayed when creating a new page.
  • Other Projects: Fixed some issues with login prologue on Android. 
  • Infrastructure: We are improving the apps modularization in Android, as well as the repositories linting.

  • Full Site Editing: We added alignment support to the buttons block and full width and wide support for the video, latest posts, gallery, media and text, pullquote, cover, group, and image blocks. 
  • Other Projects: We fixed a number of iPad display issues, and we improved the flow and error messaging when adding a new site to the app.
  • Infrastructure: We moved WordPressiOS to XCode 12 and made some CI improvements.

Editor: We now have more reliable editor release automation scripts and we’ve improved several block settings.
  • Full Site Editing: We fixed a bug when duplicating the image block, fixed removing an invalid image from a gallery, and fixed a crash when using the color palette. 
  • Infrastructure: We worked on improvements to how we do modularization on WordPress Android.
