At the summit we discussed creating a documentation…

At the summit we discussed creating a documentation roadmap. This is something we’ll have to flesh out over the next few months.

We’ve already discussed putting together a survey: https://make.wordpress.org/support/2012/11/codex-chat/#comment-15648

This should help us to gauge what people want from their WordPress docs.

But it’d also be useful to find out what other documentation folks would love to see created in terms of WordPress docs. Here’s what I’d like to see:

1) Contributor Handbooks. This is going to be my main focus for the foreseeable future. All discussion will move from make/support to this blog: https://make.wordpress.org/support/2012/11/handbooks-teams-and-templates/ We have 35 volunteers so far, which is awesome!

2) Help tabs. There is ongoing work in the UI group on the Help tabs. https://make.wordpress.org/ui/2012/08/06/we-did-some-brainstorming-at-dev-day-today/ I’d love to work with the UI guys to make sure that the content is as useful and as usable as the new design. I think @chexee has been driving this. tbh, it’s been a long time since I looked at the help tabs.

3) Developer docs: I’d love to see updates to the inline docs: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/20425 and also discussions with developers about what docs they need to improve their experience of WordPress.

What about you? What are your dream docs?
