WordPress 6.6 “Dorsey,” released on July 16, 2024, was named in honor of the legendary American Big Band leader Tommy Dorsey. This statistic was compiled using the props list prepared by Jonathan Desrosiers, Chloé Bringmann and others, focusing solely on WordPress CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. contributions (i.e., props earned for source code contributions) and mostly excluding other contributions. WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ profile information was parsed to gather details such as country and employer. When information was unavailable, external sources (e.g. LinkedIn) were used to fill in information (like company name and contributor country). It’s worth noting that 241 people contributed to WordPress Core for the very first time! That’s about 38% of the total contributors, which is an excellent ratio!

USA is still number one by far with 1033 contributions, and Australia comes 2nd with 762 contributions. Spain and the United Kingdom follow with 711 and 468 contributions each, and Japan and India with 368 and 344 props.

The United States leads with 84 contributors, followed by India with 69 and Bangladesh with 23. Spain and the United Kingdom are next, each with 22 and 20 contributors each.
In summary, the United States has the highest number of individual contributors and contributions (props). While Bangladesh and India have a solid contributor base, their overall contribution count remains lower.

Of the 129 identified companies that contributed to WordPress 6.6, Automattic had by far the largest number of contributors, with 105 people involved. rtCamp is the second biggest company in terms of contributors, with 14 people. 10up comes third with 12 people. Yoast and Multidots come fourth and fifth with 11 and 9 people, respectively.
