Overview

• 2024 Team Rep nominations: no accepted or new nominations.
• The “new” DevChat meeting held on Jan 17th.
  • Experiment Week 1: this week’s DevChat was the first experiment to drive productive discussion of current proposals and current release’s priorities (such as features or bugs that are blocked or need help).
  • The agenda changed to become a curated weekly list of news, post highlights, and updates.
  • Curated lists (in the agenda) expectations: (a) folks will read it and (b) its links will not longer be dropped during DevChat (leaving all of the time for chatting).

Code Overview

• CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. (TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub.https://core.trac.wordpress.org/. and svn):
  • 37 commits (-2 from last week).
  • 59 new tickets opened (+15 from last week).
  • 67 tickets closed (+19 from last week).
• GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/:

Highlights:

• 6.5 release squad was announced on Jan 18th.
• Media component team announced a meeting on Feb 7th “to work on planning the proposed Phase 3 Media Library” in coordination with the Editor team.
• Exploring 6.5 live Hallway Hangout was held on Jan 16th.
• Plans for the upcoming 6.4.3 maintenance release was shared on Jan 16th:

  • RCRelease Candidate A beta version of software with the potential to be a final product, which is ready to release unless significant bugs emerge. release on Jan 25th.
