Community Team Chats – May 17th 2018

The Community Team meets twice a month, first and third Thursday, at two different times to cover different timezones.

Agenda and SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. logs from May 17th: 11:00 UTC and 20:00 UTC

Deputy check-in

All systems go. The team is always busy and trying their best to help our global community to move forward! We need as much help as possible from deputies with meetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. vettings since we have a backlog in HelpScout. This seem to be a permanent situation more or less and we have to find ways to get more deputies onboard.

Proposals/Discussions/Help needed

We had quite a light agenda this time, we mainly highlighted posts so team members could take the time to check out the blog.

We have one project that needs help to continue thriving:

Meetup Organisers Roundtable

In March a group of team members ran a series of online events: roundtables with meetup organisers that discussed topics that come up regularly in the community-events channel and in person meetings.

The organisers need some help to make the videos even more useful:

  • Edit the audio-transcription
  • Add captions to WordPressTV.
  • Summarize the video chats for blog posts

We are looking for volunteers to work on this, if you can help it will be greatly appreciated.

Open Floor

Open floor brought the proposal to put together a list of resources for Community events about GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ so people can be informed about it. So far no action has been taken in this direction but it’s something that we will keep in mind for the near future.
