# Support Team Update for February 13th

As I was digging out from lots of snow Mika covered today’s meetupMeetup All local/
regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not
WordCamps are organized through [https://www.meetup.com/](https://www.meetup.com/).
A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share
new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com
will help you find options in your area. in my absence. Thank you Emergency Backup
Captain [@Ipstenu](https://profiles.wordpress.org/Ipstenu/)! _*Raises coffee cup
in appreciation*_

Items discussed at today’s meetup:

### Clorith’s proposal for recognizing support

Clorith posted about support getting recognition over at [https://make.wordpress.org/support/2014/02/support-appreciation/](https://make.wordpress.org/support/2014/02/support-appreciation/)
and Jen Mylo indicated that make/community is working on something in that direction.

Clorith intends to attend the end of month community meetup ([4th Tuesday of each month](https://make.wordpress.org/support/2014/02/support-appreciation/#comment-157100)).
There’s a lot going on over at [make/community](https://make.wordpress.org/community/)
and I recommend that everyone subscribe to that blog.

Please give Clorith’s post a read and leave a comment there.

### FYI Cyberchimp’s free theme support model is changing

Cybechimps is updating it’s support model for their free themes. Author support
for themes and plugins has always been optional and this is more of a clarification
of what the end user can expect.

There’s nothing wrong with this support model and all that’s requested is that the
author documents how support works. Which was done and you can read about it at
their [forum posting](http://cyberchimps.com/forum-topic/responsive-free-support-is-changing/).

### Please remember that wp-forums is a public list

While the wp-forums list is for well, forum matters it is a public list and gets
copied and view by many people in many places. Be polite, be welcoming, and be helpful
to each other. If you think Jen _may_ cringe from something you’re about to post
on the list then consider editing the email before sending. 😉

That’s not to put Jen on the spot, it’s just good to consider how your email may
read to others and take that into account.

### Thoughts on make/support more active and a place to go for support conversations?

The weekly IRC meetup is good and will continue, but as I’ve illustrated today the
scheduled doesn’t always fit everyone’s availability. By using the make/support
blog more this may give more people an opportunity to participate.

Along those lines there was some discussion about that and the pros and cons of
having a private section on a P2P2 P2 or O2 is the term people use to refer to the
Make WordPress blog. It can be found at [https://make.wordpress.org](https://make.wordpress.org/)
installation.

### GSoC2014

This one is more of an after meetup item. The application for Google’s Google Summer
of Code 2014 has been submitted and you can read about that over in this [make/community](https://make.wordpress.org/community/2014/02/13/gsoc-2014-application/)
post. A Codex article also has been created at [https://codex.wordpress.org/GSoC2014](https://codex.wordpress.org/GSoC2014).
Visit both links if you have any questions.

You can read the IRC log of today’s meetup via [this link](https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=wordpress-sfd&day=2014-02-13&sort=asc#m84249).
