Support Team Update for January 9th, 2014

Items discussed at the support portion of the #wordpress-sfd meetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area..

Harassment and stalking

Mika brought up a very serious topic: a moderator informed others that they were being harassed and stalked. This was then escalated to Jen Mylo and Otto.

If someone’s harassing you PLEASE inform us. It’s not cool, it’s not acceptable and as Mika said we’ve got your back.

Be nicer to people in the forums

It’s easy to be terse or snappy with users in the forums without meaning to (I’ve done it) but it’s important to remember that we’ve got to be nice to all of the users. If a topic is frustrating you then it’s alright to just walk away from it.

You do not have to answer every topic. It’s important that the focus of the forums stays on support and solving problems.

2 TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub.https://core.trac.wordpress.org/. tickets were discussed

  1. https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/26781 Directory permissions not correctly fixed for new media upload dirs
  2. https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/26778 Visual editor not showing wysywig editor and white text on white background

The first ticket was thought to have been seen on a forum topic but it later confirm to have been just a hosting issue. The user switched from Windows hosting to Linux and that seems to have taken care of it.

The second ticket was brought up by Kim Parsell with an FYI that if you see topics with that issue you can use the trac ticket discussion to hopefully resolve it.

IRC status

Clorith reported that there was an increase in people returning in IRC and sticking around to help out. Good news like that is always welcome. 😉

There was some brief discussion after that about bringing topics or behavior to the attention of others. For the forums you can tag a topic with modlook or (in the case of IRC) you can notify the wp-forums list.
