Docs Team Update for Nov 7, 2013

  • 1. Docs chat time updated – Since Daylight Savings is over, we’re now meeting weekly at 17:00 UTC, which is still 9am Pacific.
  • 2. Docs Issue Tracker Mockups – @sams posted mockups of the Docs Issue Tracker.
  • 3. Docs MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. – Last meetup was productive and we have another coming up Saturday November 16th, for those who can join in person or via IRC.
  • 4. Theme Dev HB Opening – @sams and @sewmyheadon discussed, and are working on, a more useful intro to the Theme Dev Handbook, which is tailored to help new developers up-to-speed quickly without overwhelming them with jargon or specifics, by getting them right into a basic WordPress theme.
  • 5. Theme & PluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party HB Spreadsheets Revamped – need % – @sams revamed the spreadsheets we’re using to catalog the Handbook development progress. When working on Handbook content, please enter your best guess of percentage completion for the pages you touch in the % column, so we can get a better overall estimate of Handbook progress.
  • 6. Inline Docs – Inline Docs posted a status update post, which prompted some new patch contributions.
  • 7. DevHub – Is in active development now.
