For the second week in a row Support took over most of the #wordpress-sfd meeting. Next week I vote that Docs gets more airtime or even starts first. 😉
Items discussed:
The 3.7 roll-out has been progressing well and without major show stoppers
This is the 3rd straight major releaseMajor Release A set of releases or versions having the same major version number may be collectively referred to as “X.Y” -- for example version 5.2.x to refer to versions 5.2, 5.2.1, and all other versions in the 5.2. (five dot two dot) branch of that software. Major Releases often are the introduction of new major features and functionality. where it’s been fairly smooth sailing in the forums. There were some issues but 3.7.1 took care of the loudest (image captions) and the updates went well. I do not have any numbers but Wednesday Andrew Nacin tweeted some 3.7.1 update stats that looked very impressive.
Talk of how to escalate reporting forum or IRC users
There was some discussion about how to report users privately as well as granting IRC Rockstars super powers to be able to deal with problems. This remains in progress.
NOTE: it’s not that IRC is being picked on or that there is any indication that IRC has rampant abuse. It’s just that the forums already have established controls in place. When a forum user is moderated then that user’s posts and replies are not visible to other forum members until a moderator releases them. That alone makes the forums easier to manage in terms of people misbehaving.
The process for dealing with issues in IRC is still developing. It’ll get there but it will take time and input from the IRC Rockstars as well as others.
Discussion on the issue from last week
There was some discussion about the IRC behavior reported.
The short version? The problem exists, it’s not OK to use that language and when seen please be polite but firm in your reply that it needs to stop.
