Docs Team Update for September 12, 2013

  • Issue Tracker for Docs: @sams posted a spec for the Docs Issue Tracker. Help out by posting questions or comments.
  • Inline Docs: the inline docs standard is near finalized, so additions are only happening where we need clarification.
    • Office hours: Inline Docs are holding weekly office hours on Wednesdays at 18:00 UTC in #wordpress-dev IRC channel.
  • Admin Help Videos: @jazzs3quence posted latest notes from the Admin Help meeting. These folks could still use help too.
  • Handbooks
    • Theme Dev Handbook: I’ve re-inventoried the Theme Dev Handbook, matching there with what’s in its corresponding spreadsheet. It’s pretty much up-to-date at the moment, but there’s still a lot to do. Get in touch with me if you’d like to help.
    • PluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the Plugin Directory or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party Dev Handbook still needs an editor to help drive and organize progress.
  • Docs Improvement Meetups: – Will post on The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users.     • Virtual Meetup: We’re also considering starting up another monthy virtual (IRC) Docs Improvement Meetup so we can collaborate on docs together, and hopefully knock out the Handbooks soon.

    • Office hours: devhub will now have regular office hours on Tuesdays at 16:00 UTC.
    • TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub. @sams has also added Trac tickets for devhub.  If you can help with these tickets, please do. Thanks @sams!
