Now Accepting Team Rep Nominations for the WPTV Team

As is common practice within the WordPress open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. project, each community team has one or two representatives who has been nominated by their peers to serve as “team repTeam Rep A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts.” and are responsible for communicating to the other community teams via weekly updates, as well as leading weekly team chats, wrangling new and current contributors, etc.

TL;DR: We are accepting nominations for a new Team Rep for the WordPress.tv mod team. If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) to serve as WPTV team rep for 2019, please comment on this thread.

More after the jump…

When the concept of Team reps was originally proposed the idea was to give trusted members of the WordPress community the opportunity to level up their contributions and allow them to help foster a healthy team of peers. It’s not a “lead” role that carries solo decision-making power, but instead one of service to team, making sure that everything functions smoothly, regular meetings are held, new volunteers are welcomed, and everyone contributing on the team is on the same page.

The other aspect of the “Team Rep” role, and one we have gotten away from for some time here on on the WPTV Team, is that this role was intended to change on a regular basis. Originally a 6 month term was suggested, and since then iteration has grown that to a year or two (depending on team) at most. By way of comparison, I have served as the representative of this team for almost 4 years, stating in 2014.  This is by any measure a much longer time than originally intended. 🙂

In that time I have been proud to serve as the representative for this team I love, as we have grown to host an ever larger number of WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. videos and other WordPress content. We’ve also grown from a team moderators and video publishers to also help Camps with editing their content if they are unable, provide uploading and transcoding services through Amazon AWS, manage camera kit shipments to WordCamps in the US, EU, and Canada, as well as start a nascent YouTube channel to expand our reach and share the WordCamp phenomenon with a growing audience.

There is always more to be done though, and I will need to step down soon to focus on other endeavors, so I would like to propose that we open up our team to allow another Team Rep to take then helm, and help guide our team on to new adventures! If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) to serve as WPTV team rep for 2019, please comment on this thread.

One thing to be sure of is that anyone you nominate/vote for is actually interested in having the team rep responsibilities for 2019. We’ll keep nominations open in the comments here for a week and then open a poll for voting on November 21st. Voting will close on November 30th.  Thanks!
