Welcome to the official blog of the TV review team for WordPress.tv

We approve and publish all videos on WordPress.tv as well as help WordCamps with video post-production and captioning and subtitling of published videos.

We use this P2P2 “P2” is the name of the theme the blogs of make.wordpress.org use. When asked to post or view something “on the p2” by a member of the WPTV team, that usually means you’re asked to check https://make.wordpress.org/tv. to post our progress, status reports, and occasional geeky video debates. Use the “Subscribe to Blog via Email” widgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure control of the WordPress theme to the user. to follow along!

Subtitles/captions — You can help us extend the reach of of WordPress.tv by adding captions or subtitles to any published video. Just find your favorite video, and follow the steps here to create a caption/translation file and submit for review.

Weekly meetings

We use Slack for real-time communication. As contributors live all over the world, there are discussions happening at all hours of the day. We have weekly team meetings every Thursday at 17:00 UTC, and they are open to the public!

To open the discussion a bit, I wanted to get some more feedback here.

Currently, when we publish a post on WordPress.tv, the Publicize connection shares our post on the WordPressTV Twitter account. That tweet gets sent out with a simple message, made up of the post title, and a shortlink back to the post, and @WordPressTV mention, like so:

Matt Mullenweg: Keynote QandA – WordCamp Europe 2015 http://wp.me/pllYY-clx via @WordPressTV

Depending on the length of the title, that gives us a lot of room to add custom messages before we publish. In our chat we discussed adding @WordCamp as well as hashtags for the event itself (like #WCEU) but are there any other things we should consider adding to our tweets?

What do you think would make these tweets most useful to Twitter followers?

Personally, it’d be great if the speaker was tagged in the Tweet. Someone else notified me when my presentation went up on WordPress.tv. I’d love to be in the loopLoop The Loop is PHP code used by WordPress to display posts. Using The Loop, WordPress processes each post to be displayed on the current page, and formats it according to how it matches specified criteria within The Loop tags. Any HTML or PHP code in the Loop will be processed on each post. https://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop. when my own presentations go live. Also, the ones MOST likely to share the Tweet would be the presenter and all their followers, so it’s not simply a self-interested idea. WordCamps almost ALWAYS collect your Twitter handle when you register for the WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. so it shouldn’t be a major stretch to get that information in advance.

In order of importance, off the top of my head I’d consider referencing:
- The speaker
- Hashtag of the event
- Handle of the event
- Hashtags for the topic
- @WordCamp

  A hashtag for the speaker name and @WordCamp would be easy to add but the others – hashtag and handle of events and the speaker twitter handle is not something that is supplied with the videos. Those would be much more difficult to add.

      For those who wanted these added:
      if the hashtags and handles were supplied when the video was submitted then they could be added when published.

I think it would make sense to use these formula, which is useful for the users:

Post Title (without the speaker’s name) + @Speaker’s Twitter + @WordCamp + #Event hashtag*

For example: Theme, Don’t Be My Everything @WordCamp @karmatosed #wcmaui

It’s completely unuseful to put speaker’s names like hash tags and strip out the Post Title, like the form of the lots of last tweets already posted. The Title is the first thing a user reads and decide if to click or not to consume more content.

For find the speakers Twitter name the editors need to do some more research/work, but it’s worth it, speakers can notice the tweet and repost and spread the voice… etc. Is it our goal to have more traffic and spread the voice? 🙂

Who agree/disagree to this tweet format and why? Any other comments or suggestions?

I like it very much.

The difficulty would be to get the various Twitter pieces since they are not given when the video is submitted. If we had to research all this then that would slow down the review process.
