Language in a WordCamp Video I am reviewing…

Welcome to the official blog of the TV review team for WordPress.tv

We approve and publish all videos on WordPress.tv as well as help WordCamps with video post-production and captioning and subtitling of published videos.

We use this P2P2 “P2” is the name of the theme the blogs of make.wordpress.org use. When asked to post or view something “on the p2” by a member of the WPTV team, that usually means you’re asked to check https://make.wordpress.org/tv. to post our progress, status reports, and occasional geeky video debates. Use the “Subscribe to Blog via Email” widgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure control of the WordPress theme to the user. to follow along!

Subtitles/captions — You can help us extend the reach of of WordPress.tv by adding captions or subtitles to any published video. Just find your favorite video, and follow the steps here to create a caption/translation file and submit for review.

Weekly meetings

We use Slack for real-time communication. As contributors live all over the world, there are discussions happening at all hours of the day. We have weekly team meetings every Thursday at 17:00 UTC, and they are open to the public!

  I think I may know about this video, as the speaker was blowing me up on Twitter because their video was not up yet… not knowing that the WC org just hadn’t gotten around to it.
  
  So my thought here is that we should definitely not allow adult language, but it is possible that this uploader will complain pretty vocally in tweets, so I just thought I’d mention it. 🙂
  
  I’ll also add that @paolal brought to my attention a video that is in Italian and had a lot of expletives. Naturally those are not in english, and Paolo backed up the fact that, in Italy at least, such talk is not as offensive as it is to us Yanks. They swear on prime time televsion, for example.
  
  So with that in mind, should we have a “no swearing” policy across the board, or have some cultural sensitivity toward this issue?

    At the very least it should be tagged “Adult Language” since we have a large diverse audience.
    
    It would be easy to edit out and not impact the content.
    
    Issues like this are such a distraction from the content.

      I agree on the tagging idea if it’s just a tiny f-bomb (like the projector broke or something) and maybe even a few little ones in the talk.
      
      But a speaker who is all “eff this and eff that” throughout the presentation is not something I want to see up on wp.tv. Yes, we’re all adults, but there is such a thing as being professional and classy.
