Titling Meetup Videos

We have our first real live WordPress MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. video (thanks Jason) and I am moderating it currently. One thing I’m not sure how to do is title the video. Here are some choices I thought of, but not sure what is best:

Speaker Name: Title of the Presentation – This is how we do WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. videos currently. Short and sweet
Speaker Name: Title of the Presentation – Orange County WordPress Meetup – Adding the name of the meetup at the end. Seems kind of long, but has all the info
Speaker Name: Title of the Presentation – OCWP – Adding the meetup abbreviation at the end. This was supplied by the uploader, but I don’t know if every Meetup does abbreviations.
Orange County WordPress Meetup – Speaker Name: Title of the Presentation – Adding the name of the meetup at the beginning instead.

What do you think? Any other ideas you think would work better?

Do some meetup have more than one presentation?

Assuming these will show up in a “Meetups” section, I’d think that tagging it with the group name/location and using “Speaker Name: Title” would be sufficient.

@abstrakone – I’d be interested in talking to you about your recording/streaming process. Where can i hit you up with questions?

I’m getting ready for our first real presentation at the Northeast Pennsylvania WordPress meetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. in about a week and a half and was planning to stream via a Google Hangout. But would I be able to then save it off and upload to WordPress.tv instead of (or in addition to) YouTube?

I’d love to help develop and pilot a “blessed” method for doing this, that we can promote for organizers.

@philerb, does the google hangout stream, when you save it off, retain the Google logo in the recording? I would also like to get that sussed out so we can include that in the Submissions Guidelines. 🙂

  I’m going to do some testing with it tonight or tomorrow and I’ll let you know. I haven’t really gotten to play with Hangouts OnAir yet, but that seemed like the easiest way to broadcast it live.     I think drafting some best practices directly addressing meetups would be fantastically helpful, yes please!
    
    I would hope we wouldn’t need a new set of submission guidelines specifically directed to meetups; if meetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. In general, we like to (1) assume people will be their best selves first, and (2) focus more on the “do”s than the “don’t”s. 😀

  Having done my first (very quick) test with Hangouts OnAir, I can edit out the initial splash screen (first four or five seconds of the published video by default), but can’t get rid of the Google+ watermark in the top-left corner.

    Yeah, I was afraid of that. The appearance of that logo makes it a no-go for publication on WordPress.tv I would assume. 🙁

      No chance I could beg for amnesty on that, I guess? It’s such a great tool – makes it incredibly easy to make and livestream these kind of videos, then download and the MP4 and upload here.
      
      Not just for my own vices, but I think we may lose a lot potential WordPress meetups, because they’ll want the ease of Google Hangouts.

      My main desire for a Google Hangouts like system is that we can then have remote presenters / panel members / etc. and EASILY broadcast them (and our on-site presentation, if need be) on our live stream.
      
      But, I’d also love to publish on WordPress.tv.

        We want the same things, actually. Anything that makes it easier for WP meetups to share awesomesauce is certainly right there on my wishlist. 🙂 I need to see what opinions the team reps have on the matter, and then I’ll get back to you guys on this one, ok?

        Maybe we could slip through the “it’s not really a SPONSOR logo” loophole? 🙂

        I agree with you, they really do a lot to remove the barrier to entry and participation, and based on that alone we should absolutely accept Google hangouts, despite the watermark.
        
        But I do always worry about the slippery slope of this argument. If we allow a Google watermark, how do we justify holding back publication of other videos that also have a watermark? I’m not sure I know where to draw the line on this one, I’m afraid.

        You’re right. The best thing that I can say in defense is “it’s not a sponsor, it’s the tool”, but I’m sure that it some would try to argue that by providing a free tool, it’s a sponsorship. But I’m sure that Google would hate to think that they’re “sponsoring/endorsing/giving the green light to” everything that’s broadcast via their tool – which is why I say it’s not a sponsor.
        
        But, with my argument made, I’ll give it up to the judgement of the team reps.
