Content Creation

Content Translation

Do you speak Spanish, Japanese, German, French, Hindi, or Italian? Join us in localizing content for these languages, along with 8 others. Are you interested in editing content? If so, then reviewing content waiting to be published is our priority today.

Subject Matter Expert

Triage Developer Issues

Are you a developer interested in working on issues for the Learn website? If so, then working through ourย Website Development project boardย is our priority today.

Start by reviewing issues โ€œIn Reviewโ€. Any help you can provide regarding issues โ€œIn Progressโ€ would be great, too. But in general, any attention you can give to any issue would be much appreciated.

If there are enough interested Developers, then we can also create a developer-focused working group so that they can focus on related issues.

WordCamp Europe 2024 presentation recap

On June 14, I had the privilege to present the Training Teamโ€™s vision for Learn WordPress at WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what theyโ€™ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Europe 2024. The presentation saw an engaged audience of 300-400 people in the main hall, with many more tuning in online. I wanted to document the feedback I received here for the team to consider as we continue improving Learn WordPress.

Ideas from the community

  • Show Learn content in the WordPress dashboard.
    • Hosts would love for a way to show content right there without the user having to leave their site.
  • Provide Learn content in a way that hosts etc. can add/subtract modules as needed for their use cases.
    • Building a pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. was one idea as a way to achieve this.
  • Clarify how users can get help with the content.
    • Learn could show a call-to-action โ€œclick here for helpโ€ within content.
  • Offer a glossary so that users know what to call the things theyโ€™re learning.
    • There have been previous efforts to create a unified WordPress glossary (Slack conversation) which would be great to integrate on Learn for learners.
  • Provide certifications for learning achievements.

Brainstorm – WordCamp Asia 2023 Contributor Day

Itโ€™s now less than a month to Contributor Day at WordCamp Asia 2023! In preparation for the day, weโ€™d like to invite you to share your ideas of what contributors at the Training Team table can get involved with on that day.

Below are some ideas to kick-start discussions. Feel free to comment on this post with your ideas, too!

This brainstorming is open until February 8th (Wednesday).

Team reps and table leads will consider all ideas and publish a post with a final plan by February 10th 13th.

Experienced Contributors

Idea: We can label issues for contributors to work on with wcasia 2023 or similar before the event starts. This will allow us to create a dedicated view in GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. WordCamp US 2018 Contributor Day

The Training team made a lot of progress at Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. We on-boarded several new members, completed several TrelloTrello Project management system using the concepts of boards and cards to organize tasks in a sane way. This is what the make.wordpress.com/marketing team uses for example: https://trello.com/b/8UGHVBu8/wp-marketing. Cards, and collaborated with the Design and Marketing teams to develop the plan for our front-end lesson plan site.

Call for Your Comments

One of the largest-scope discussions involved the development of our WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ front-end site. Currently, our dedicated URLURL A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a websiteโ€™s URL www.wordpress.org is learn.wordpress.org, but a proposal was made to change to teach.wordpress.org.

The reasoning behind the proposal is that our content isโ€” in factโ€” focused onย how to teachย WordPress topics, rather than learning. Weโ€™d like to open the discussion on this since it will be a rather large change. Please make a comment on this post with your feedback on the proposal so that we can discuss it in our upcoming meetings.

As we collaborated with the Meta team with the goal of translating our Lesson Plans in GitHub to the front-end, we reached the conclusion that a restructuring of our repositories will be needed.

In order for the front-end to be most easily kept up-to-date, as well as provide a mechanism for a final editorial review before content is published, a new master repository will be created with individual lesson plans as submodulesย within it. This will allow our current workflow to remain mostly unchanged, and the Team Leads can perform an editorial review before pulling into the master repo. @jessecowens has volunteered to spearhead this project.

This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site.-proficient writers who can develop new Slide Decks for lesson plans.
  • Instructional designers or educators familiar with BloomBloom's Taxonomy Bloom's Taxonomy is a way of writing lesson plan objectives using specific words so that the objectives can be measured. Priority Projects Moving into 2019

  1. Finish the copy and design of the learn.wordpress.org (or teach!) and deliver it to the MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. Team.
  2. Clean up the Training Team Handbookย with the vision of creating a one-stop-shop for new contributors.
  3. Identify priority lesson plans to highlight on learn.wordpress.org when it goes live.
