Lesson Plan Style

Original lesson plans were written in a script (paragraph) style.

Newer lesson plans have more of an outline format, as this was found to be preferred based upon user feedback.

We need to determine which lessons need to be revised to the newer format.

Example of outline (newer) style:

Example of script (older) format:

Steps to sort:

  • Log in to https://learn.wordpress.org/wp-admin
  • Go to Lesson Plans > All Lessons
  • View lessons in browser
  • Edit a lesson if it uses the old style
  • Check the Editorial Metadata if the lesson needs to be revised to an outline style

Revising Lesson Plans to Outline Style:

We have an audit tool in the works to replace the features we miss from GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. is working on this, but we do not have an ETA yet. Our tentative guideline for editing live lesson plans until then is:

  1. Copy/paste live content to a draft post
  2. Title the work in progress as “DRAFT: Title of original”
  3. Save, but do not publish
  4. Leave a message in Training

This will allow anyone to pick up and continue the work, track revisionsRevisions The WordPress revisions system stores a record of each saved draft or published update. The revision system allows you to see what changes were made in each revision by dragging a slider (or using the Next/Previous buttons). The display indicates what has changed in each revision., and set media images on Learn siteLearn site The Training Team publishes its completed lesson plans at https://learn.wordpress.org/ which is often referred to as the "Learn" site. for others to access.
