Here’s what you need to know to get started
Onboarding information

There are several ways that you can contribute to the team today. Choose the one that most interests you or suits your skills.

  1. Copyedit an existing lesson plan
  2. Draft a new lesson plan
  3. Edit (update, rewrite, or complete) an existing lesson plan
  4. Suggest combinations of lesson plans for 2-hour, 4-hour, 8-hour workshops
  5. Suggest a new lesson plan, including a description and objectives

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in, comment on posts, and participate in meetings and on projects.

  1. Join the #training Slack channel
  2. Attend weekly meetings at 19:30 UTC on Thursdays
  3. Continue with the activities you started today
  4. Help with testing lesson plans by using them in meetups and/or workshop
  5. Help with other team activities not listed here today (see the Trello board for examples)

Choose what interests you from the options below.

If you would like to draft a new lesson plan… If you would like to draft a new lesson plan…

  1. Choose a card from the “Lesson Plan Backlog” list on the Trello board
  2. Add yourself to the card (“Add Member”)
  3. Find the lesson plan’s repo on GitHub
  4. Fork the dev branch to your own GitHub account
  5. Create a branch on your personal repo, name it dev- + your username (i.e., the dev-{username} branch)
  6. Do your writing on the README.md file in that branch (or you can do it elsewhere and copy it in later) and save your work with descriptive commit messages
  7. If images need to be updated or re-created, place them in the /images/ folder and use a relative link (i.e., /images/filename.png) to include them in the README.md file
  8. Creating slides is not a priority at the moment
  9. When you are done working on the lesson plan, submit a pull request back to the wptrainingteam repo’s dev branch

  2. Add yourself to the card (“Add Member”)
  3. Drag the card to the “Lesson Plan Drafts in Progress” list
  4. Find the lesson plan’s repo on GitHub
  5. Fork the dev branch to your own GitHub account
  6. Create a branch on your personal repo, name it dev- + your username (i.e., the dev-{username} branch)

  1. Add a card to the “Lesson Plan Backlog” list on the Trello board
  2. Include a description for the workshop to describe what the workshop would cover and who the audience would be
  3. Indicate which lesson plans would make up the workshop
  4. Indicate the approximate expected length of the workshop (in hours)

  2. Include a description for the lesson that so that another person could understand what the lesson plan should cover
