This post summarizes the Tide chat meeting from August 20th in the #tide SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. Reminder that the current Tide focus is integrating PHPPHP PHP (recursive acronym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a widely-used open source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML. http://php.net/manual/en/intro-whatis.php. Compatibility data from Tide into WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/.  Once PHP Compatibility is integrated into WordPress.org, we’ll assess the next focus to provide the biggest impact to the community.

1.0.0

  • Down to 7 issues in the milestone as wptide#184 was closed by pkg#20
  • @valendesigns to redeploy the Kubernetes clusters with the updated images
  • Caching issue and rate limiting are the best places for others looking to contribute, all help is greatly appreciated!
  • @kkoppenhaver to take a look at wptide#178
  • @valendesigns: once PHP 7.4 hits stable releaseRelease A release is the distribution of the final version of an application. A software release may be either public or private and generally constitutes the initial or new generation of a new or upgraded application. A release is preceded by the distribution of alpha and then beta versions of the software. and compat repo ready, we’ll want to add support and tests for PHP 7.4
  • @valendesigns: upgrade of WordPress is blocked by trying to figure out what changed in the REST APIREST API The REST API is an acronym for the RESTful Application Program Interface (API) that uses HTTP requests to GET, PUT, POST and DELETE data. It is how the front end of an application (think “phone app” or “website”) can communicate with the data store (think “database” or “file system”) https://developer.wordpress.org/rest-api/. in 5.0+ that’s causing breakage
  • @jeffpaul: worth noting that WP 5.3 is due out in November so this update will get continually more complex the longer it takes (and more major releases make it out)

General announcements

  • @clorith: thankful that the Tide APIs for data are very easy to work with, latest Health Check plugin update uses them to provide a pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party compat tool for quick indication of how an upgrade will work out
