GPL and licence agreement

As discussed in this week’s SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. meeting. We are starting to think about how automation could work. One important thing is licenses. A possible idea is on upload the user agrees to a terms of having their theme on .org. We have a little bit of this now, but it’s up to the reviewers to check. What could we do here to make this process not require a reviewer? Lets try and think about that first before we find the issues with the idea.

Some things to consider:

  • What would the wording be like? What have we to cover?
  • What legally can we do here?
  • A point worth noting is we could include the license information we already have in handbook.
  • Also worth considering is what can we do education wise to make people more aware of license?
  • As we start considering the upload process and automation along with the theme directory, looking at our wording and language is key. The upload process in itself is something we should really be considering as a good point to increase and catch before people have even got to the point of having to be rejected.

    Lets brain storm possibilities.
