## 󠀁[What is the Themes Team?](https://make.wordpress.org/themes/handbook/about/?output_format=md#what-is-the-themes-team)󠁿

The Themes Team is a group of volunteers who reviews and approves themes submitted
to [the official WordPress theme directory](https://wordpress.org/themes/) and maintains
the [Theme Developer Handbook](https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/).

The team also engages and educates the WordPress Theme developer community regarding
development best practices.

The Themes Team:

 * Reviews and approves themes submitted to [the official WordPress theme directory](https://wordpress.org/themes/)
 * Helps build and maintain community themes and default themes
 * Contributes to the [Theme Developer Handbook](https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/)
 * Reviews and approves patterns submitted to [the official WordPress Pattern directory](https://wordpress.org/patterns/)
 * Maintains the [theme review handbook](https://make.wordpress.org/themes/handbook/review/),
and [requirements for including a theme in the theme directory](https://make.wordpress.org/themes/handbook/review/required/)
 * Maintains the [theme test data](https://github.com/WPTT/theme-unit-test), and
   the [theme check plugin](https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-check/).
 * Contributes to solving theme-related enhancements and bugs in WordPress and GutenbergGutenberg
The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves
the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content
much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom
   HTML etc. [https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/](https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/)
