Themes Team Meeting Notes – July 27, 2021

Welcome to the Themes team!

We are a group of volunteers who review and approve themes submitted to be included in the official WordPress Theme directory.

We do license, security, and code quality reviews.

We help build and maintain default themes.

The primary focus of the team is to help theme authors transition to blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.-based themes.

Handbooks and review requirements

The team maintains the official Theme Review Requirements, the Theme Unit Test Data, and helps the documentation team with the Theme Developer Handbook.

Coding standards and plugins

We maintain the WPThemeReview Standard for PHP_CodeSniffer, the Theme Sniffer plugin and Theme Check

Code Packages

We have code packages for themes available for use on GitHub and Packagist

Communication

Meet us in the #themes SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. channel.

1. Weekly updates

The themes team published weekly updates about tickets and HelpScout emails. See this week’s updates here. In the past 7 days,

576 tickets were opened
588 tickets were closed:
559 tickets were made live.

30 new Themes were made live.
529 Theme updates were made live.

0 more were approved but are waiting to be made live.
29 tickets were not-approved.
0 tickets were closed-newer-version-uploaded.

2. Discussion meeting with theme authors

The themes team is going to do a zoom call with theme authors regarding requirement changes on 28th July 2021. The list of interested theme authors are already prepared. For this first meeting, the spots are full. We can still do more at a later date if needed. If any theme authors are interested, please comment in the post or DM @kafleg.

3. Open Floor

In this part, we discussed and share few things. There were no discussions regards to theme development at today’s meeting.
