Theme Review Team Meeting Agenda for June 25, 2019

Welcome to the Themes team!

We are a group of volunteers who review and approve themes submitted to be included in the official WordPress Theme directory.

We do license, security, and code quality reviews.

We help build and maintain default themes.

The primary focus of the team is to help theme authors transition to blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.-based themes.

Handbooks and review requirements

The team maintains the official Theme Review Requirements, the Theme Unit Test Data, and helps the documentation team with the Theme Developer Handbook.

Coding standards and plugins

We maintain the WPThemeReview Standard for PHP_CodeSniffer, the Theme Sniffer plugin and Theme Check

Code Packages

We have code packages for themes available for use on Github and Packagist

Communication

Theme review team conduct meeting on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. We usually have fixed agendas for the fourth Tuesday meeting. Because of numbers of agendas to discuss we had agenda based meeting on the second Tuesday as well.

We have some topic to discuss about. Hence, we encourage all members and anyone interested to attend.

Weekly Updates
We had an agenda on the previous meeting about TA (Trusted Author). But in the previous meeting, we were not able to discuss all the things about it. We did communication with few authors and reviewers about the TA, but it’s still hard to decide what to do with it. Because of that, we’d like to discuss this issue again.

Remove Child ThemeChild theme A Child Theme is a customized theme based upon a Parent Theme. It’s considered best practice to create a child theme if you want to modify the CSS of your theme. https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/. Queue – Make the same queue for both child and parent theme.

I think Non TA Author should allow to upload a second theme after 4 Weeks of first theme upload. At now after upload a first theme user wait approx 2 Months in New Queue and then Theme goes in Tickets Under Review Process where in approval theme it takes approx 2 weeks and after it goes in Final Review: Approved Themes Not Yet Live
In this Queue for setting Live theme it takes approx 4 Weeks. So Total is 4 Weeks[New Queue] + 2 Weeks[Under review] + 4 Weeks[Final Review: Approved Themes Not Yet Live] = 10 Weeks
Clearly that a developer have to wait for Minimum 10 Weeks sometimes Theme set Live time goes approx 15 Weeks. Its too horrible. This is Injustice for non TA. This is why because For TA theme approval time is just A single Day. If TA Program does not ban then I think we should give opportunity to new author for upload a new theme after 30 days(4 weeks). Even author old theme is anywhere in theme queue.
