Core Test Team at WCUS 2025 Contributor Day

Hello WordPress enthusiasts 👋

Join us for Contributor Day at WCUS 2025 on Tuesday, August 26, in Portland, Oregon! It’s a day full of learning, teamwork, and real impact. The CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. Test Team will be there with open arms, whether you’re a first-time tester or already know your way around a bug report. Come and be part of something awesome and help make WordPress even better. Here’s a sneak peek at what we have planned for the Core Test Team and how you can get involved.

🎯 Core Test Team Goals

Our focus for the day revolves around achieving meaningful and ambitious contributions.

  • Onboard New Contributors: Provide guidance and mentorship to newcomers eager to join the Core Test Team.
  • Help with tickets that need testing:
  • Expand Automated Testing Coverage: Increase the number of automated tests for core components.
  • Test bugs or features and report new issues.
  • Improve Documentation: Enhance the clarity and comprehensiveness of testing guidelines.
  • Triage Issues: Review and prioritise open tickets.

Contributors with different skills, talents, and backgrounds can get involved in a variety of ways. If you are unsure how to start or what to do, give it a try. Table leads and experienced contributors will help you get started. You are welcome! 🙌🏻

The energy and enthusiasm will be contagious, reinforcing the shared purpose that unites the WordPress community.

🗓️ We have team meetings and Triage sessions on an alternating basis every Wednesday at 16:00 UTC.

🧪 Calling All Test Team Contributors for WCUS 2025! 🇺🇸

WordCamp US is heading to Portland, Oregon, and the Contributor Day is planned on Tuesday, August 26, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM PDT (from 4:00 pm UTC) at the Oregon Convention Center.

To make the most of this event, we’re looking for 2–3 experienced Test Team contributors to serve as Table Leads onsite and remote.

What does a Test Table Lead do?
You’ll welcome new contributors, introduce them to Make Test, guide them through available resources, and create an open, supportive space for collaboration. More details can be found in the Test Table Leads section of the handbook.

Interested in helping out?

Don’t feel like leading but still want to help? That’s just as valuable! Your presence whether onsite or online; can go a long way in making new contributors feel welcome and supported.

WCEU 2025 : Contributor Day Recap

It was an energising day of contribution and collaboration at WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. The CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. Test team gathered with purpose, passion, and curiosity; both online and in person; to move WordPress forward through testing.

Whether you helped test a patch, triaged a bug, or just explored how to get started, your time truly mattered. 🙌

We had a beautiful mix of contributors both seasoned testers and new faces:

  • 44.4% contributed remotely
  • 55.6% were there in person
  • And most exciting: 61.1% were first-time Core Test contributors!

Our contributors jumped into many testing activities across the WordPress project:

  • 75% tested Core patches manually
  • 37.5% helped triage issues
  • 12.5% tested GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ PRs
  • A few explored unit testing or provided automation support
  • Others reviewed test instructions and helped folks get started!
