# Help test new career functionality on WordPress.org

For many years, [jobs.wordpress.net](http://jobs.wordpress.net) has been a resource
for folks applying for jobs and looking for candidates. In recent weeks, various
changes have been made to both the design and to [WordPress.org](http://wordpress.org)
profiles to better integrate career functionality with the aim to help foster careers
in WordPress directly in WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress
code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source
code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for
community conversations and organization. [https://wordpress.org/](https://wordpress.org/)
infrastructure. This call for testing is to help ensure that those of us working
on this are making changes that properly serve those seeking candidates or looking
for jobs. If you have feedback that doesn’t align perfectly with the call for testing
but that relates to the overarching vision of adding more career connections, please
still share it in the comments below.

## What is it?

The recent updates touch two surfaces:

 * [jobs.wordpress.net](http://jobs.wordpress.net) — refreshed design and a more
direct path between job listings and the candidates behind them.
 * [WordPress.org](http://wordpress.org) profiles — new fields for job history,
key accomplishments, and a “looking for jobs” toggle, so a contributor’s profile
can double as a lightweight candidate page.

The goal is for someone’s WordPress.org profile to become a meaningful representation
of their professional work in the ecosystem, and for that profile to be discoverable
from the jobs board.

## How to Test

The flows below are suggestions to give your testing some structure, but please
don’t feel obligated to follow them in order or complete all of them. The important
question is whether these surfaces feel solid enough to help people find jobs and
find candidates, and whether you notice any bugs, UXUX UX is an acronym for User
Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less
about how they do it. gaps, or unexpected behaviors.

## Suggested Testing Flows

If you don’t fall into either the applying for jobs or looking for candidate bucket,
please still test by trying out just the applying for jobs functionality and reviewing
both experiences in WordPress.org profiles and on the Jobs site.

### Applying for jobs

#### Add job history

 1. Log into WordPress.org and edit your profile by following this link [https://profiles.wordpress.org/profile/edit/](https://profiles.wordpress.org/profile/edit/)
 2. Find the Jobs tab and add one or more past roles.
 3. Save.
 4. Confirm the entries displayed correctly on your public profile.

Of note, we’re working on adding in an importer for a CV but we also want to ensure
the base flowFlow Flow is the path of screens and interactions taken to accomplish
a task. It’s an experience vector. Flow is also a feeling. It’s being unselfconscious
and in the zone. Flow is what happens when difficulties are removed and you are
freed to pursue an activity without forming intentions. You just do it. of adding
jobs works well.

#### Turn on “open to job opportunities”

 1. From your profile settings, enable the “open to job opportunities”  toggle.
 2. From there, decide if you want to enable the “Show an “Open to work” frame on my
GravatarGravatar Is an acronym for Globally Recognized Avatar. It is the avatar
system managed by WordPress.com, and used within the WordPress software. [https://gravatar.com](https://gravatar.com/)”.
 3. Click Save Settings.
 4. Confirm your Gravatar changes and displays the frame.

Of note, your profile will then appear on [https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates](https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates).

#### Add key accomplishments

 1. From your profile, add one or more key accomplishments.
 2. Save.
 3. Confirm they appear in the expected place on your profile.
 4. Try removing an accomplishment and confirm it’s removed.

#### Browse jobs on󠀁[ jobs.wordpress.net](http://jobs.wordpress.net)󠁿

 1. Visit [jobs.wordpress.net](http://jobs.wordpress.net).
 2. Browse the listings.
 3. Try any filters.
 4. View results and confirm they are correct.

### Looking for candidates

#### Review how candidates appear on the Jobs site

 1. Go to [https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates](https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates)
 2. Confirm relevant details (current job, role) are visible at a glance.
 3. Click on different candidates and review how job information is presented on their
    profiles.

#### Review individual profiles

 1. Go to [https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates](https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates)
 2. Click on different candidates available to hire and review how job information
is presented on their profiles on WordPress.org.

#### Post a job listing (only do this if you have a real job to post)

Once more, only do this if you truly do have a job to post! Please do not post fake
jobs.

 1. Go to [https://jobs.wordpress.net/post-a-job/](https://jobs.wordpress.net/post-a-job/)
 2. Fill out the information in the form for a real job you want to post.
 3. Click Submit job.
 4. Go to [https://jobs.wordpress.net/#jobs](https://jobs.wordpress.net/#jobs)
 5. View the job after submission and confirm it appears as you’d expect.

## Share your feedback by June 25th, 2026

Please comment on this post to share feedback. If you’re comfortable, you can also
[open issues in this GitHub repository](https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress.org/issues)
directly.

Some questions to consider:

 * Did adding job history, accomplishments, or turning on “looking for jobs” feel
intuitive? What features would you add to make it even easier?
 * Did your profile look the way you expected once you’d filled it out?
 * As someone looking for candidates, did the Jobs site surface the right people,
and was it easy to understand who they are?
 * Did anything feel slow, confusing, or broken?
 * Are there pieces of the career story that feel missing: things you’d want to
see your profile express, or filters you’d want when looking for candidates?

Shout out to [@bor0](https://profiles.wordpress.org/bor0/) for reviewing this and
for all of the help getting this functionality in place.

 3. I just filled out my full career history (10 positions, 2001-present) and browsed
the candidates listing. Here is what I ran into.
 4. **Bug: apostrophe escaping**
Text with apostrophes renders with a visible backslash
on the public profile. My summary says “Developers’ team pilot” but the profile
shows “Developers\’ team pilot”. Looks like a double-escaping issue on the output
side — the value is stored escaped and then escaped again on render.
 5. **Job title field: 50 character limit is too short**
      My LinkedIn title is “Full-
Stack Web Developer | WordPress & LLM/AI Specialist” (57 chars). It got truncated
to “LLM/AI Spec”. Titles like “Senior Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure”
already hit 48 chars. I would bump this to at least 80-100.
 6. **No way to edit prior positions**
You can only Remove and re-add. If I need
to fix a typo in a summary, I lose the entry and have to recreate it from scratch.
The current job has an edit form — prior positions should get the same treatment.
 7. **Prior positions are not sorted chronologically**
      They display in insertion
order, not by date. Someone filling out their history bottom-up vs. top-down gets
a different result. The public profile should sort by start date descending regardless
     of insertion order.
 8. **No location or employment type fields**
      LinkedIn has location (Gdynia, Poland/
Remote / EU) and type (Freelance, Contract, Full-time). These are standard fields
people expect on a career profile. For someone scanning candidates, knowing whether
a person is remote-first or tied to a specific city matters a lot.
 9. **Candidate cards on jobs.wordpress.net lack detail**
      The cards show username
+ current title + company. That is it. No GravatarGravatar Is an acronym for Globally
Recognized Avatar. It is the avatar system managed by WordPress.com, and used
     within the WordPress software. [https://gravatar.com](https://gravatar.com/),

and those would be the single most useful signal for a hiring manager looking
for WordPress talent. A WP core contributor with 19 years of history looks identical
to a student who just signed up.
 10. **No search or filters on the candidates page**
650 people in one flat list.
No way to filterFilter Filters are one of the two types of Hooks [https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Hooks](https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Hooks).
They provide a way for functions to modify data of other functions. They are the
counterpart to Actions. Unlike Actions, filters are meant to work in an isolated
manner, and should never have side effects such as affecting global variables
and output. by skill, technology stack, location, years of experience, or WordPress
team membership. If I am looking for a WooCommerce developer in the EU timezone
who has contributed to core, I have to click through every single card.
 11. **Summary field: 1000 chars works but is tight**
My Equiqo role on LinkedIn lists
~30 tools and technologies plus responsibilities. Fitting that into 1000 chars
required cutting. I would consider 1500-2000, or better yet, add a separate structured“
Skills/Tools” field that doubles as filterable metadata on the candidates page.
 12. **What I would prioritize next (from a real user perspective):**
      1. Fix the escaping
bug — it is visible on every profile that uses an apostrophe. 2. Add edit capability
for prior positions. 3. Chronological sort on the public profile. 4. Bump the
title field to 80-100 chars. 5. Add location + employment type fields. 6. Surface
WordPress community badges on the candidates listing — this is the one thing that
makes jobs.wordpress.net uniquely valuable compared to any other job board. Nobody
else can show “this person has shipped core patches.”
 13. Overall, the direction is right. Having career history directly on WordPress.org
profiles makes the ecosystem stickier and gives long-time contributors a way to
show their track record where it actually matters. The CV importer mentioned in
the post will be the real unlock — typing 10 positions by hand was tedious.
 14. Props to [@bor0](https://profiles.wordpress.org/bor0/) and the team for shipping
     this.

         - Oohh good call. I think we should for sure add location. I’m not sure what
value employment type provides or what that would entail. [@motylanogha](https://profiles.wordpress.org/motylanogha/)

         - I hear what you’re saying here and I’m not sure how best to do this in a
way that’s not visually overwhelming. For those with even more than 3-4
badges, the badges would quickly overwhelm any additional information. For
           now, let’s keep it simple.
         - Thanks @bor0 for the quick fixes!

            * [@bor0](https://profiles.wordpress.org/bor0/) that was fast, thank you!
And props back for the commit credit, much appreciated.
            * [@annezazu](https://profiles.wordpress.org/annezazu/) on employment type:
what I had in mind is a simple dropdown for each job entry with options
such as Freelance, Contract, Full-time, and Part-time. The WordPress
ecosystem has an unusual mix of these compared to most industries. A
lot of people do contract or freelance WordPress work for years and then
look for a full-time role (or the other way around). When someone is
browsing candidates on jobs.wordpress.net, knowing that a person has
8 years of freelance WordPress work vs. 8 years of full-time agency work
tells you something real about how they work and what they are used to.
It also ties into the “open to work” toggle – someone might be open to
contract work but not full-time, or vice versa. LinkedIn treats this
as a per-position field and it maps directly to how people think about
              their own career history.
            * On badges: totally fair on visual overwhelm. What about showing just
a badge count or a compact summary line like “CoreCore Core is the set
of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds
WordPress. Contributor, PluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software

the candidate card? That keeps the card clean but still differentiates
a 10-year core contributor from someone who registered yesterday. The
full badge list stays on the profile page where there is room for it.
Even a small “X badges” pill next to the name would carry signal without
              taking up card real estate.

               - Makes sense. Thank you! I’ll incorporate this feedback in for the
dropdown. I agree that it would add helpful clarification.
               - I’ll see if I can get a good design option for it and consider how
we can. I do think the high level sentiment is right: it’s important
to find a way to highlight those who contribute as part of a strong
                 ecosystem.

it currently looks like it is disabled.
 23. For the “Current location” field, users can enter any value, for example “Polandtest”.
I think it would make sense to be stricter here and allow users to select only
from a predefined list of countries, especially if this information may be used
     later for filtering by country.
 24. Also, the field label could be clearer. It is not obvious whether we are asking
for the user’s country, city, or both.

but there is no search form (testing instructions state to “Try any filters or
     search”).

      * Updated the instructions (sorry about that). I also think we should add a search
form so noting that as on the list. Thanks for testing!

 36. On [https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates](https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates),
the pagination states Page 1 of 73, but there are 74 pages actually ([https://jobs.wordpress.net/?cp=74#candidates](https://jobs.wordpress.net/?cp=74#candidates))

      * I see 74 pages now so I’m not sure what was going on there. I’ll keep an eye
out to see if the problem reoccurs.

 40. On [https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates](https://jobs.wordpress.net/#candidates),
I don’t see the point of adding the message “Open to Work” to every candidate,
as only open-to-work profiles are listed there. It’s too repetitive and redundant.

 44. **UXUX UX is an acronym for User Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think‘
what they are doing’ and less about how they do it. Feedback for the jobs tab.**
The color of the buttons “Save current job” and “Add position” is misleading:
they look like inactive elements (like “disabled” state) because the contrast
     is too low.
 45. Some of the elements are reformatted to `u2022` instead of bullet points inside
     the description of the entries.

      * Agreed. This was brought up before and I’ve added your feedback to that issue:

 49. Ukrainian language isn’t supported for the description of the entries.
 50. The positioning of the “Edit” and “Delete” buttons isn’t consistent within different
sections (like Jobs or Key accomplishments)

      * Can you explain what’s going on? I tried using Ukrainian and was able to add
it, save it, and view it on the front end.
      * > The positioning of the “Edit” and “Delete” buttons isn’t consistent within

      * Good call, we should be consistent there. Added to the list!

 54. For the job listing in jobs.wordpress.net from a UXUX UX is an acronym for User
Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less
about how they do it. standpoint, the filtering of the type of location and the
type of project is really something that would be great to have.
 55. How to Apply section inside the job description would be wonderful to have more
visible, like a button, not a standard link.
 56. Visually, Recent impact is highly overloaded with fonts: there are 3 typefaces
in one card, which does not give any visual value.
