Call for Testing: WordPress for Android 15.5

WordPress for Android version 15.5-rc-1 is available for testing on the BetaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. What to Test

To prepare:

  • Go to Account > App Settings > Privacy settings and turn on the “Collect information” and “Crash reports” options.
  • Go to My Site > Settings > Use Block Editor to enable the block editor for new posts.
  • Switch to Dark Theme when testing Android 9.0+ devices for this release. On the device, go to Settings > Display > Advanced > Device theme and choose “Dark”.
  • If you are comfortable testing in a language other than English, please test in that language.

To test:

  1. 11693 Test with a WordPress.com Simple or Jetpack site. Create a new post or page, type @ to select any user from the site, verify the mentioned user is notified. Repeat the test using the @ option in the editor toolbar. Try typing an @ symbol as a word by itself or at the start of the word with using mentions.
  2. 12488 Test with a WordPress.com Simple or Jetpack site. Go to Media, “+” (top right), “Choose from device” and try uploading each file type mentioned at https://wordpress.com/support/accepted-filetypes/. Verify you can add images and videos into a post or page using the available blocks in the block editor. Verify you can add a file to a new post from the notice that appears after uploading it in Media. What happens when you do this with an audio file? (Note: the audio block is not yet supported in GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler.   3. 12488 Test with a Self-hosted site. Go to Media, “+” (top right), “Choose from device” and try uploading each file type mentioned at https://codex.wordpress.org/Uploading_Files. Verify you can add images and videos into a post or page using the available blocks in the block editor. Verify you can add a file to a new post from the snackbar notice after uploading it in Media (what happens when you do this with an audio file?).
  4. 12565 Test with a Self-hosted site. Go to My Site > Blog Posts and search for posts. Check to see if words in the title and/or body work and that you can see older posts. Verify search results are the expected results. Test using a site with several hundred posts.
  5. 23280 Create a new post or page, add a cover block, add an image, verify you can tap the image to preview, replace the image, and tap the media editing icon at top to make edits to the image and then verify the edits are visible after publishing.
