Call for Testing: WordPress for iOS 15.1

WordPress for iOSiOS The operating system used on iPhones and iPads. version 15.1 betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. is available for testing on TestFlight. You can sign up for our TestFlight program and join as a beta tester by opening that link on your iPhone or iPad.

Release Notes

  • Free GIFs can now be added to the media library, posts, and pages.
  • You can now set pages as your site’s homepage or posts page directly from the Pages list.
  • BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.   • Block Editor: Support for breaking out of captions/citation authors by pressing enter on the following blocks: image, video, gallery, quote, and pullquote.
  • Fixed a bug where “Follow another site” was using the wrong steps in the “Grow Your Audience” Quick Start tour. 
  • Fix a bug where Quick Start completed tasks were not communicated to VoiceOver users.
  • aFixed a bug where the “Publish a post” Quick Start tour didn’t reflect the app’s new information architecture.

What to Test

To prepare:

  • Go to Account > App Settings > Privacy Settings and turn on the Collect information option.
  • Go to Account > Help & Support and turn on the Extra Debug option.
  • Go to My Site > Settings > Use Block Editor to enable the block editor for new posts.
  • If you are comfortable testing in a language other than English, please test in that language.

To test:

  1. 14297 Verify you can search for and add GIFs through Media > Add > Free GIF Library and in the image block while editing.
  2. 14238 Verify animated gifs appear animated in image blocks in the editor and on the posts/pages list if the gif is a featured imageFeatured image A featured image is the main image used on your blog archive page and is pulled when the post or page is shared on social media. The image can be used to display in widget areas on your site or in a summary list of posts..
  3. 14307 Go to My Site > Settings > Homepage Settings and select the Static Homepage option. Go to My Site > Site Pages, set the Homepage and Posts page for different pages by tapping the ... menu, verify the change is reflected on the web.
  4. 14234 Complete TC010 and TC011 from the Cover block test cases.
  5. 2241 Complete the 4 test cases noted for theme colors and gradients.
  6. 2352 Add a caption to an image block, tap enter at the end of the caption text, verify new paragraph block is inserted.
  7. 2371 Verify media uploads do not crash the app on page templates. See testing steps.
  8. 14260 Go to Me > App Settings, verify the default value is ‘system default’, change the value to light then dark verify the UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing. appearance in the app updates accordingly. Force quit and re-open the app and verify the most recent setting selection is remembered.
  9. 14261 Change the device timezone to something different than the timezone in site settings. Publish a new post, go to Stats > Insights, and verify the time since the post was published is correct in the Latest Post Summary.
  10. 14276 Create a new site signup, select “Yes, Help Me” when prompted, go to Grow Your Audience > Follow other sites, verify that the indicator for the Reader appears in the right place, verify that the instructions make sense and can be followed.
  11. 14289 Enable VoiceOver on the device. In the app, go to My Sites, tap the Media button then two-finger swipe down to get VoiceOver to read, verify a description is given for the Next Steps section and the items within have accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers).   • Search the GitHub repository first to see if the bug is a known issue.

  • Please be aware that a bot will ask for labels but you may not have rights to add them. Know that labels will be added by someone on the triage team. 👍
  • If you would like to send Activity Logs to help with debugging (this can be very useful!), you should first trigger the bug and then go to Profile > Help & Support > Activity Logs > Current and use the share icon at top right to copy the logs. Next, go to Help & Support > Contact Us, add a short note mentioning the bug report link, and paste the logs below the note. Please be aware Activity Logs may contain tokens which should not be shared publicly, and that’s why logs should be sent through the Contact Us form.
