This release includes a lot of tweaks, bug fixes and performance improvements. It includes a new Async Rendering Mode for blocks so it’s important to test it with custom blocks.

The goal of GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ is to simplify the creation of rich pages and posts in WordPress by replacing old custom HTMLHTML HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language. To help test, please download gutenberg.zip from the releases page or use the button above, install/activate the plugin, and try testing any of the items listed below. You can also see other options for getting setup for testing in the handbook. When testing, use the latest stable release of WordPress (5.0.3) and the Gutenberg 4.9 plugin (download using the links above). All testing is welcome even if it’s just one or two items!

Open a large document and quickly type a short word. Typing should not feel slow, if it does please note the document size you tested. (13056)
Check custom blocks from many available plugins. (13056)
Mark a post as pending review and check that the publish date still says “immediately”. (13178)
Upload an image with a title in its metadata and check that the title in the media library is the same. (13193)

I tested items 1-8 in these environments and did not find any blockers.

- WordPress 5.0.4-alpha-44523, WordPress BetaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. - WordPress 4.9.8 (to compare how EXIF/IPTC data was imported for images)
I tested from various browsers for the different items.
- Firefox 64.0.2 on macOS 10.13.6
- Safari 12.0.2 on macOS 10.13.6
- Chrome 71 on Windows 10 via browserstack.com
- Edge 18 on Windows 10
Testing notes:
1. Quickly typing a new word into a previously published 10,000-word text-only post worked without lag.
2. I tested with Yoast SEO 9.5 and Advanced Custom Fields 5.7.10 and Jetpack 6.9 all active and did some basic tests such as setting categories and adding a metaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. 6. Opened the Gutenberg demo post using Edge 18 on Win10 and there was only one scrollbar. Scrolling to the end of the block library and then scrolling the post worked normally.

I also tested a few other things to look for regressions:
- Post locking.
- Submitting a pending post as an author and publishing it as an admin.

- Convert to Blocks on a classic blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. with a paragraph, image, and contact form.
- Previews for edits to published posts are not working (ongoing discussion at 12617).
No blockers found but 12617 has been marked as high priority because several people reported the problem in multiple issues (which have now been mostly consolidated to 12617).
