I know this is a bit old, but I recently found myself wondering why some images had the “edit original” and “replace” buttons and others didn’t (I hadn’t even noticed that the size dropdown was missing), and after some troubleshooting/debugging I found the reason. It seems when you add an image via WP’s media gallery, WP adds the class “wp-image-” where is the image’s ID. If that class is absent, then the the size dropdown, “edit original”, and “replace” buttons are all not rendered. This seems to be a bit of a bug as the class that WP inserts could be absent for a variety of reasons, whether it is accidentally or intentionally removed by a user, or by code in functions.php or a pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. On the other hand, the other problem then is how can WP identify an image if it’s not somehow tagged with an attribute that adds the image’s ID, be it a class, data attribute (data-*), or some other method. Anyway, I just wanted to reply saying that I found the root cause. Cheers.
