Add nginx config to support subdirectory sites on learn.wordpress.org

learn.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ is already configured as a separate multisiteMultisite Multisite is a WordPress feature which allows users to create a network of sites on a single WordPress installation. Available since WordPress version 3.0, Multisite is a continuation of WPMU or WordPress Multiuser project. WordPress MultiUser project was discontinued and its features were included into WordPress core.https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network. network, but has only had the one root site so far. When I try to access a subdirectory site I created at learn.wordpress.org/test/, I get a browser error that the page isn’t redirecting properly.

It looks like make.wordpress.org has an nginxNGINX NGINX is open source software for web serving, reverse proxying, caching, load balancing, media streaming, and more. It started out as a web server designed for maximum performance and stability. In addition to its HTTP server capabilities, NGINX can also function as a proxy server for email (IMAP, POP3, and SMTP) and a reverse proxy and load balancer for HTTP, TCP, and UDP servers. https://www.nginx.com/. config file that enables support for its subdirectory sites, so I’m guessing learn would need something very similar.

We’re trying to get the learn.wordpress.org site updated by Aug 12th, so I’m setting this to high priority in the hopes that it can get done soon.

I think the redirect problem is unrelated (works for me) to the nginxNGINX NGINX is open source software for web serving, reverse proxying, caching, load balancing, media streaming, and more. In addition to its HTTP server capabilities, NGINX can also function as a proxy server for email (IMAP, POP3, and SMTP) and a reverse proxy and load balancer for HTTP, TCP, and UDP servers. https://www.nginx.com/. config, however, {learn,developer}.wordpress.org are indeed in a file by themselves that don’t support sub-directory sites.

The developer config can probably be dropped and those domains added to the make network config instead, as none of those domains (learn, developer, make) have anything special about them, other than that they’re subdomain installs that don’t need all the extra Rosetta/WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ complexities.

I’m not able to reproduce the redirect part:

Maybe try incognito, or emptying the browser cache?

Turns out the redirect issue is with wp-admin:

It still doesn’t support subsites though, as you can see by https://learn.wordpress.org/test/xmlrpc.php not returning the expected response..

This is no longer a priority 1 issue, as it was deployedDeploy Launching code from a local development environment to the production web server, so that it's available to visitors. on the main domain instead.
@coreymckrill is this going to need sub-sites in the future? or can this be closed

We now have a use case for sub directory sites on learn.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/, so we’d like to get this configured ASAP.
