News and updates

• During Yoast’s Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. we have worked on the resources for our guidance to make WP sites more sustainable and made decisions about the pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party we’re working on, including some new contributors.

Social sustainability

• Improve Sustainability Team handbook
• Determine if/how we can work with the Contributor Working Group on contributing to and extending Five for the Future (5ftF); revisit and formulate next steps. Check out this proposal (draft) to form a cross-CMS working group that would contribute extending 5ftF and related projects. Also, there is now a Slack channel for 5ftF.

Economical sustainability

• Funding for the WP Sustainability Plugin and its guidelines: @Danny Moons and Merel Witteman are willing to partner with us on sustainability topics. They are sponsored by, amongst others SIDN.nl, to create awareness about sustainability and web. We work on joining forces together.
• Find out how we can partner with organizations outside the WP ecosystem that deal with the same challenges within the world of open-source. As discussed here and here.

Environmental Sustainability

• Create a web sustainability guidelines for WordPress, contribute to this new project: read about targeting and formats and add resources and references. Also, see above for the summary from Yoast’s Contributor Day.
• Start the development of the WordPress Sustainability Plugin that reports on your website’s sustainability and encourages you to make it more sustainable. Read the output of Yoast’s Contributor Day and a couple of issues to be solved before we continue (feel free to add issues/questions).

Open discussions

• The Spanish Sustainability handbook section (including the translation of our sustainable events handbook) is already approved after some changes. Soon to be available here.
