Topics revolved around WordPress 4.2 BetaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. and items for the OMGWTFBBQ draft.

Items mentioned:

  • The utf8mb4 Upgrade: DB upgrades will be taking place with 4.2. You can find out more information about the upgrade at https://make.wordpress.org/core/2015/04/02/the-utf8mb4-upgrade/. In short, this change will check to see if the server specs meet the minimum requirements and if so, the database tables are upgraded. Testing is looking good, but be prepared to handle issues in the forums and IRC.

We wanted to start gathering a list of new features today in the meetup but decided to hold off until a ticket is created for the latest about page. Other than what was mentioned here, the OMGWTFBBQ draft will be updated soon and as always, continue to test 4.2 Beta when you have a chance.
