Community headlines and updates

As WordPress 5.9 is approaching, it’s time to review the “Master List” post (formerly known as the OMGWTFBBQ post).

In a prior meeting, we discussed eliminating custom titles in the forum user profile. But, it turns out that these are still needed to identify those working on themes, as the theme repository does not yet support the badging that’s currently used for plugins. Proposed: We stop doing custom titles for anyone other than theme support folks.

There was some discussion of TwentyTwentyTwo and how FSE themes will change a lot of what we tell people. For example, “Appearance -> Menus” is gone from the dashboard, and it’s not clear how to do custom CSSCSS CSS is an acronym for cascading style sheets. This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site.. A lot of boilerplate will need adjustment.

There was also some discussion of the warnings when one runs into Akismet driven actions. There’s a trac ticket for this and suggestions are very welcome: https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5263
