Request to unify Korean locale slug as “ko” (remove redundant “_KR”)

I’d like to request unifying the Korean WordPress localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ slug to simply `ko`, instead of `#ko_KR`.

According to international language standards such as IETF BCP 47, the primary language subtag `”ko”` is already sufficient to indicate Standard Korean as spoken in South Korea. The `”KR”` regional subtag is unnecessary unless differentiating between variants, such as North Korean (`ko_KP`) or other dialectal forms (e.g., Yanbian Korean).

GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org. already uses `”ko”` as the language slug, and many parts of the WordPress translation infrastructure (e.g., `html_lang_attributesms` in 6.8.x) reflect this with `ko-KR`. Unifying under the base `”ko”` would:

  • Reflect established international standards
  • Reduce redundancy
  • Clarify that this locale refers to the standard form of Korean
  • Allow for clean differentiation if variants are ever needed in the future

Please consider this change to improve consistency and alignment with global practices.

Missing strings after plugin update

After the latest update of my pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party Germanized for WooCommerce not all (newly introduced) stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. seems to be parsed by glotpressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org.. Locally using WP CLICLI Command Line Interface. Terminal (Bash) in Mac, Command Prompt in Windows, or WP-CLI for WordPress., all strings were parsed and added to the pot filePOT file POT files are the template files for PO files. They will have all the translation strings left empty. A POT file is essentially an empty PO file without the translations, with just the original strings. just fine.

I request zh_CN https://i18n.svn.wordpress.org/zh_CN SVNSVN Apache Subversion (often abbreviated SVN, after its command name svn) is a software versioning and revision control system. Software developers use Subversion to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. Its goal is to be a mostly compatible successor to the widely used Concurrent Versions System (CVS). WordPress core and the wordpress.org released code are all centrally managed through SVN. https://subversion.apache.org/. access.

Current zh_CN use automated release, but according to the documentation https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/for-editors/packaging-localized-wordpress/automated-release-packages/#minor-custom-changes-for-the-current-stable-version we hope to make some small custom changes.

Since the maintainer @jimmyxu and @jiehanzheng who currently has SVN access is no longer active, I would like to apply for SVN access.

My access is removed from CLPTECross-locale Project Translation Editor A Cross-Locale Project Translation Editor is an account owned by a plugin or theme author (or the authoring organization), which uses professional translators to localize their product. The cross-locale project translation editor can import/validate strings on a specific project for more than one locale. This role has the same capabilities as a Project Translation Editor over multiple locales instead of one. Cross-Locale Project Translation Editors need to meet a set of criteria before being appointed by General Translation Editors. as in some languages stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. Hi,

I’m one of the Lead Developers of the BuddyPress plugin and in our next major version we are moving our very old BP Default theme into the BP Classic backwards compatibility plugin. To avoid losing the great work some of you did translating the BP Default theme stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings., I’ve exported `bp-themes/bp-default…` referenced strings from the BuddyPress “stable” languages and imported them making sure to replace all `bp-themes/bp-default` occurences by `themes/bp-default` into the BP Classic “stable” languages.

I did this importation process for the following languages: Czech, Danish, German, English (UK), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Costa Rica), Persian, Finnish, French (France), Japanese, Dutch, Dutch (Belgium), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Turkish.

BuddyPress next major version is slated for release on December 6, if other languages want to reproduce the export/import task I explain above, please make sure to do so before this date.
