About the Team Rep role

Expectations for team reps can vary from team to team. In general, Polyglots team reps help to:

  • Prepare for and run Polyglots weekly team chats. These chats can be assigned to any team members to lead and help facilitate.
  • Providing quarterly Polyglots updates to other contributor groups.
  • Generally representing Polyglots across the project, or in the occasional chat.
  • Improving the Polyglots handbook from time to time.
  • Maintain a high-level perspective and awareness on current Polyglots projects.
  • Lead the Polyglots Table at WordCamps including help facilitate other contributors to represent as Table Leads.

On behalf of @amieiro, @spiraltee and myself, I would like to thank you all for allowing us to serve the role. It’s an absolute honor to be able to support this amazing community of individuals who share their time, energy, and talents with the WordPress software project. Congratulations to our new Team Reps! We are confident that the role is in very capable hands.

P.S. Please feel free to leave a comment or a few words of encouragement for our new team reps.

Call for Polyglots Team Representatives- 2025

It’s time to select the team representatives for 2025 across the WordPress project for the Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/.!

What is a Team RepTeam Rep A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts.?

Within the WordPress project, each contributor team has a minimum of two team representatives. Often abbreviated to “Team Reps,” these people represent the team across the project, share key updates across all contributor teams, and generally help to support the team as a whole. You can read more about the team rep definition and expectations on the Team Reps page.

Currently, the Polyglots team has three representatives: @chaion07 @spiraltee @amieiro and we thank each of them for their contribution to the WordPress project and dedication toward the Polyglots Team.

Expectations for team reps can vary from team to team. In general, Polyglots team reps help to:

  • Prepare for and run Polyglots weekly team chats. Currently, there’s a spreadsheet used to track who is available to run the weekly meetings, this helps to effectively split the workload.
  • Providing quarterly Polyglots updates to other contributor groups.
  • Generally representing Polyglots across the project, or in the occasional chat.
  • Maintain a high-level perspective and awareness on current Polyglots projects.
  • Lead the Polyglots Table at WordCamps including help facilitate other contributors to represent as Table Leads.

It is also worthy to note that;

  • Experienced mentors will also be around to support the team reps.
  • You also don’t have to be a Team Rep to help facilitate weekly meetings.
  • This opportunity presents the possibility for you to expand your network within the WordPress community and gain a deeper insight into how it works.

Team Reps should expect to dedicate 1 to 2 hours per week to these activities. Any active Polyglots contributor can be a Team Rep, and we can have more than two Team Reps. Likewise, an existing Team Rep can continue in the position, as well, though having new people in these roles is encouraged!

Opening nominations

Any active Polyglot can be a Team Rep, and anyone can nominate a Team Rep. Self-nominations are also accepted. Everyone is welcome to give some thought as to who is a good fit for this role and nominate them in the comments of this post.

Duplicate nominations are also welcome – so if someone has already shared your suggested team rep, please feel free to add your support. Likewise, while the person you’re nominating is expected to be an active Polyglots contributor, they do not have to be active in the global/international Polyglots community, so please share this post within your localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/, too!

Nominations for Polyglots Team Reps will be open until February 26, 2025. Those selected as Team Reps will take over these responsibilities starting in March 2025 and would be in this position for a period of 12 months, until the end of March 2026.

After the nominations close, if there are enough nominees that we need to make a selection, we would publish a poll before the end of March, so everyone can cast their votes. Keep in mind that whoever is selected as a team rep will need to accept the role. So if someone nominates you, and you aren’t available or interested, don’t worry! Simply let us know in the comments or in a DM to me that you do not wish to accept the nomination.

If you have any questions about the Team Rep role, want to learn more, or any other doubts, please share them here in the comments!
