Seeking Guidance: Scaling Translation Contributions,…

Seeking Guidance: Scaling Translation Contributions, Glossary Management, and the GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. Pathway for fa_IR

Hello Global Polyglots TeamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ and Mentors,

I’m writing to seek guidance on the best way to scale my contributions to the Persian (fa_IR) localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ while ensuring that my work remains aligned with established Global Polyglots practices and responsibilities.

My Contribution Context

I am a WordPress developer and an active Polyglots contributor. My current involvement includes:

  • Translating and maintaining 219+ projects across plugins and themes.
  • Serving as a Project Translation EditorProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. • Developing open-source tools, such as Kabook PTE Project Monitor, to support and improve the translation workflow.

LocalizationLocalization Localization (sometimes shortened to "l10n") is the process of adapting a product or service to a particular language, culture, and desired local "look-and-feel." Work and the Glossary Bottleneck

As part of my efforts to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the Persian locale, I have recently completed 100% translations for approximately 30 AI-related plugins and 20 complex international payment gateway plugins.

This work has highlighted a terminology-management bottleneck that I would like to address through the official Polyglots process.

Several months ago, I submitted 35 glossary term suggestions covering terminology relevant to these areas. These suggestions are still pending and have not yet been approved or rejected.

I also reviewed the current official fa_IR glossary. It contains approximately 1,280 entries, with a 2025 update timestamp, but I could not find substantial recent additions addressing newer and increasingly common terminology in areas such as AI and international payment systems.

To maintain consistency and translation quality while these terms remain under review, I have created and am actively using a personal working glossary for AI and payment-related terminology.

This has been useful for maintaining consistency across my own projects, but I believe that terminology that proves useful at this scale would be more valuable if reviewed and, where appropriate, incorporated into the official locale glossary. This would help reduce terminology fragmentation across plugins and benefit other contributors as well.

Guidance I’m Seeking

I would appreciate guidance on the appropriate official pathway for addressing this at the locale level.

1. GTE pathway

Could you assess whether my current contribution history and responsibilities meet the usual expectations for a General Translation EditorGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. (GTE) role for fa_IR?

If I am not currently meeting the expected criteria, I would appreciate knowing what specific milestones or responsibilities would normally be expected before applying or being considered for GTE access.

If appropriate, one of my priorities in such a role would be helping with the outstanding glossary suggestions, establishing consistent terminology for emerging technologies such as AI and payment systems, and supporting the broader translation workflow.

2. Broader PTE access for Plugins

If a GTE role is not currently the appropriate path, would broader PTE access for the Plugins project be a viable alternative, similar to my existing PTE access across Themes?

I would be happy to coordinate with the existing fa_IR GTEs and follow the established review and approval processes, particularly around glossary management and terminology standardization.

My Main Goal

My goal is not simply to obtain additional access. I want to reduce friction in the translation workflow, improve terminology consistency, and make my contribution more useful and sustainable for the wider Persian-speaking WordPress community.

I would therefore appreciate guidance on which of these pathways—or another pathway you recommend—would best align with the Global Polyglots model and the current needs of the fa_IR locale.

Requested Locale and Action

Seeking guidance on:

  • GTE eligibility and pathway
  • Broader Plugins PTE access, if appropriate
  • Resolution and future management of the pending glossary terminology

Thank you for your time, mentorship, and for the work you do to support the WordPress translation community.
