PTE Request for Translate Rocket

Hello Polyglots! I am the plugin author for Translate Rocket ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/translate-rocket/ ). I have suggested translations for the locales below (Italian already has 578 waiting strings) and would like to be able to review and approve them as PTE. Please add my WordPress.org user @federicodev as translation editorTranslation Editor Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. There are two different Translation Editor roles: General Translation Editor and Project Translation Editor for the following localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. Hi Jens, thank you for the questions — you’re right on every point, so let me answer honestly.

How were the translations obtained: the German catalog that ships inside the pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. started as machine translation with light manual curation. It was meant as a convenience baseline inside the plugin itself, not as a submission to the Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ — which is also why there are no waiting stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. Am I fluent in German: no. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. request for #de_DE withdrawn — you’re right that I couldn’t objectively evaluate quality or linguistic nuances. The same goes for #es_ES, #fr_FR and #pt_BR: I’m not a native speaker there either, so I withdraw those as well. My apologies for the over-broad request — it’s my first one and I clearly aimed too wide.

Glossary, Style Guide and no unedited machine translations: understood and agreed. It’s exactly why I’m narrowing the request.

I’d like to keep the request only for #it_IT, my native language: I commit to proofreading every waiting suggestion against the it_IT glossary and style guide before approving anything.

And if a German-speaking contributor ever wants to work on the plugin’s translation, I’ll gladly support them however I can. Thanks for keeping the bar high.

If you are uncertain about a translation, feel free to ask there anytime. You can find a German tutorial on how to register for our German Slack;

To keep the quality of Italian translations high and make sure that they are really useful for users, we have some rules and guidelines for becoming a PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves., such as to be an Italian native speaker and follow an introductory chat with expert Italian editors in our Italian Polyglots channel #polyglots-it at the international WordPress SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ workspace.
