Hi Polyglots Team,

I’m the author of the Physicks plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/physicks/) and I would like to request PTE (Project Translation Editor) status for the following locales, so I can review and import the translations I’ve prepared and shipped with the plugin:

#es_ES

— fr_FR
— de_DE
— it_IT
— nl_NL
— pt_BR

It is typically used to translate program code, and may be loaded or imported into the GNU gettext program. This is the format used in a WordPress install. These files are normally located inside .../wp-content/languages/ in the plugin ZIP. I would now like to import these translations into translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins. so they’re properly tracked and visible to users.

But a few questions to you that can help speed up the handling:
1. Do you personally actually speak all these languages? How did you source these translations?
2. Have the translations already been uploaded to our translation platform so that the locale teams can check them?

Thank you both for the quick response and for your honesty. To answer your questions transparently:
1. I’m a native Spanish speaker. The translations to the other 5 languages were initially generated with Claude AI from the pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They will have all the translation strings left empty. A POT file is essentially an empty PO file without the translations, with just the original strings., and then informally reviewed by native-speaker contacts of mine for the major UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing. stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings.. Important context: this is my first WordPress plugin publication, and I genuinely wasn’t aware of how strict (and rightly so) the review pipeline is.
Given this, I’d like to revise my request:
- For #es_ES, I’ll review and refine the file personally as a native speaker, and would still like to be considered as PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves..
- For #fr_FR, #de_DE, #it_IT, #pt_BR and #nl_NL, please consider my PTE request withdrawn. I will only re-submit a language once a qualified native translator has reviewed the file against the proper glossary.
- If any localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. As long as you’re using the correct text-domain (= plugin slug), a language pack from wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ will be loaded with preference over the corresponding one shipped with the plugin.
  In other words: when you see that a locale has its own language pack in https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/physicks/language-packs/, then you can safely remove it from your plugin.
