Cross-Locale Project Translation Editors need to meet a set of [criteria](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/rosetta/theme-plugin-directories/#cross-locale%c2%a0project-translation-editor)
before being appointed by [General Translation Editors.](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/glossary/#general-translation-editor)

and set up a special user account for this purpose.

where you are also welcome to ask questions around internationalizationInternationalization
              Internationalization (sometimes shortened to **I18N** , meaning “I -
eighteen letters -N”) is the process of planning and implementing products
and services so that they can easily be adapted to specific local languages
and cultures, a process called localization. This is the process of making
software translatable. Information about Internationalization for developers
can be found in the [Developer’s handbooks](https://developer.wordpress.org/).
and localizationLocalization Localization (sometimes shortened to "**
l10n**") is the process of adapting a product or service to a particular
language, culture, and desired local "look-and-feel." in our channel “
polyglots”. This is probably better done from your normal/personal account.
            * Also ask the marketing team to include the link [https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/glossaries-and-style-guides-per-locale/](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/glossaries-and-style-guides-per-locale/)
              in their briefings to translators.
German, for instance, will need (
at least) two translations, informal (du) for the default branch, and
formal (Sie) for the formal branch. I said “at least”, since there are
also de_CH (where the default branch is “Sie” and they’ve also got an
_informal variant) and de_AT. Note also that there are substantial differences
between European and Brazilian Portuguese, and between Spanish (Spain)
              vs. the Latin American variants.
