You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them. Also join your language team’ internal communication channels.

The PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. role is for someone who personally knows the target language well. I don’t think you’re totally fluent in these 39 languages.

How did you obtain these translations? According to the Polyglots’ handbook, you should NEVER upload machine translations that haven’t been checked by someone who knows the target language well. See https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/expectations/

I had a quick look at the stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. you submitted for Swedish. If we would simply approve your pending strings, several existing good translations would get replaced by bad machine translations.
To rephrase: you wrote some kind of script that:
- didn’t take into account existing translations
- didn’t take into account style guides and term glossaries ( https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/glossaries-and-style-guides-per-locale/ )
- just blindly uploaded this to our platform.
And now you’re expecting volunteers of 39 various localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ to (in aggregate) spend hours of unpaid work to check these translations and figure out if you seem to know their language well enough.

Also, you didn’t tag your post correctly, most notifications to the localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ teams didn’t get triggered. I’ll correct your post format (for later reference), but am not going to trigger additional notifications anywhere, since I’ll remove the to-do status of the post.

Hi, thank you for the explanation.

You’re absolutely right. I didn’t read the handbook carefully before doing this, and I understand now that uploading unverified machine translations is against Polyglots policies and creates extra work for volunteers. I’m sorry for that.

Is there a way for me to remove or retract the pending “waiting” translations I submitted, so they don’t clutter the queues for the 39 localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/? I want to clean up the mess I made rather than leave it for others to deal with.

I’ll make sure to follow the proper process going forward – either working with native speakers to verify translations first, or waiting for community contributors to translate organically.

  Unfortunately, there’s no quick way for you to retract your stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings..
  But many active teams start a review by looking at the overall picture. If they see problems with a large number of strings, they will in most cases do a bulk deletion.

#pl_pl done. Poor machine translations with lots of style, guide, and grammar issues.
