I am the pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. We have a number of great translation helpers who send me directly their translations for me to implement (they do not want to join WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. Since you don’t know if the translations you submit actually are good or not, they still need to be checked by someone.
In the Swedish team, for instance, @elbogen spends a large number of hours every week to keep our backlog clean. While checking Swedish translations from you (and approving most of them), he still rejected hundreds, too. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. request would need to be for people that know each respective target language.

This role has the same capabilities as a Project Translation Editor over multiple locales instead of one.   What I can see from many of the rejected stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. in Swedish, that’s simply NOT the case.
  In this case it looks as if someone who doesn’t know Swedish has been using partially matching entries from the translation memory, not even noting the warnings about missing or surplus placeholders for variables; or that the partial match actually means something totally different.

Their limited time is best spent on mentoring translators.
  You should never take for granted that all GTE’s happily rush ahead and filterFilter Filters are one of the two types of Hooks https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Hooks. They provide a way for functions to modify data of other functions. They are the counterpart to Actions. Unlike Actions, filters are meant to work in an isolated manner, and should never have side effects such as affecting global variables and output. your guesswork into lucky and unlucky entries.

    Yes, I did automated translations as requested by my users (they prefer some low quality translations instead of no translations). They are now wanting to go in and help clean up the translations and that is what I hope to achieve. I wholly appreciate the help of the WP translations team and their limited time, but it sounds like me and my users tolerance level of allowing some inaccuracy of translations is different than the WP translations team and handling my own translations elsewhere may be the best solution.

      I can’t really agree.
      Translating, say
      “Portraits” as “Port Said” is not helpful, but confusing. Same goes for
      “PayPal failed to refund” → “The message couldn’t be sent”; “Gallery Theme” → “Type of gallery”; etc.
      In addition, you submitted lots of stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. that might even generate runtime errors due to unbalanced consumption of variables.

        Thanks for the added info, I appreciate you taking the time to point out these issues. These instances are definitely needing work. I understand you disagree, but I follow my users’ lead in how they want me to handle translations and they have made it clear they would rather have 97% accurate with these few incorrect ones than 0% translations. There are a lot of stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. so I think people are finding it overwhelming to get started and instead want to edit/update strings instead. As mentioned, of those who have offered to help not many want to go through a full orientation process – they just want to spend a few minutes editing some strings here and there as they find them.
