WP Translation Day in September 2022 – suggestion, discussion

We’ve done several WP Translation Day events in the past years. Typically, they would consist of a great number of local events (meetups with translation as the theme) and 24 hours of more or less continuous video streaming.

Organizing and running 24 hrs of live video programming is a HUGE project. That’s probably the main reason that we now haven’t had any TranslationDay the last couple of years (as opposed to a lot of other regular events that actually moved TO online format due to the pandemic.

I feel that it would be great to have a Translation Day again, and I think that somewhere “end of September” could be a good aim.

But I’d like to suggest that we this time try to redefine what this event will look like. Let’s find a format that keeps the fun, the useful, getting-together and contributing, but perhaps without taking on ourselves an enormous task of creating 24 hrs live streaming.

Perhaps 3-4 useful presentations. 2-3 of virtual gatherings at various times, to suit different time zones. But without the need for 50 presentations, 5 streaming masters, etc. I’m sure you get my idea.

So this post is a placeholder for our discussion on this.

Questions:

  1. When is a good time for next WP Translation Day?
  2. What ideas do you have about the format?
  3. What can YOU contribute with to make this happen?
  4. Who wants to be the project lead for this?
  5. What important question did I forget to ask here.

Yes, we can discuss this in SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. “polyglots” and even our special channel “polyglots-events”. But let’s use this post and its comments as a place where we’ll gather ideas and start forming some decisions in a couple of weeks.
