We would like to start a translation / transcription project.
There are two living scripts for Hungarian language, the latin based and the runic like Szekely-Hungarian rovas (known and registered as Old Hungarian), an RTL script.
All requested transcription would be done directly from the latin based Hungarian text, so it is not a real translation, the texts are already verified and used in latin based Hungarian. There will be around 2-5 persons in our transcription group, and we wait others to join if they are interested.

Technically, this might be enabled as a “variant” of #hu_HU
Some examples: Variants are used for instance to maintain a parallel formal version of #nl_NL and #de_DE (and and informal version of #de_CH )

There are similar solutions (existing or underway) in order to support two scripts for #sr_RS and the AO90 spelling convention for #pt_PT using localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. When choosing between creating a new locale or a variant of an existing locale you may need to keep the following:
- A variant will NOT have its own RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. site. (i.e. there is no rosetta site for Formal German.)
- Editing translations for a variant is available to the same people that have translation editorTranslation Editor Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. There are two different Translation Editor roles:
  General Translation Editor and Project Translation Editor access to the main locale.
- This means that there may be a bit less administration involved for a variant, and the translation team will by definition be “shared” within the locale.
