# Polyglots Training Working Group Update

Hi, Polyglots! The [Proposal/Call for Volunteers: Polyglots Training Working Group](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/2021/02/09/proposal-call-for-volunteers-polyglots-training-working-group/)
generated helpful feedback for topics. Based on those ideas, we [now have a list](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/2021/02/09/proposal-call-for-volunteers-polyglots-training-working-group/#comment-290644)
to help us start building these materials. Those include:

 * What it means to contribute translations to WordPress (for example, consistency,
   tone, quality, etc.)
 * How translations work (including what we translate, what we don’t translate,
   and how to use glossaries)
 * The [section for Editors](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/for-editors/)
   from the Handbook
 * A workshop on how to create a glossary
 * A workshop on how to create a style guide
 * A workshop on how to give feedback

Last week, [@nao](https://profiles.wordpress.org/nao/) and [@evarlese](https://profiles.wordpress.org/evarlese/)
hosted an informal open working session to start working on these ideas and the
next steps.

We have now created a [shared Google Drive](https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1pxgf1eoc3JR0vl1Jj4cZyUDPP75PR7Di)
to organize the planning documents, drafts, and outlines. If you’d like edit access
to Google Drive to help with planning these courses, please leave a comment or pingPing
The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in
computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection.
Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message(
DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.”

in [#polyglots](https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C02RP50LK) SlackSlack Slack

The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at [https://make.wordpress.org/chat/](https://make.wordpress.org/chat/)
channel.

We plan on hosting the working session again [Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 12:00 UTC](https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20210318T1200)
and will share Google Meet link in the [#polyglots](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/tag/polyglots/)
channel.

## How to help

In the next few weeks, we hope to start drafting the course content (especially
for lessons with a related Handbook page, like [Building a Glossary and Style Guide](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/for-editors/glossary-style-guide/))
_and_ interviewing contributors from different localesLocale Locale = language version,
often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes
Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in
[https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/)
based on [these questions](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uvnF0alOXYBkZjgqHWqUOWZidzlUZJfl6UBCWD4BL6s/edit).

You can help by:

 * Add feedback to the [training outline draft document](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u8atp5zfDiP6F7-2falyJho1AHn8C1BrdTXsFXVS7WY/edit#).
 * Volunteering to draft or review the lessons. Just leave a comment on this post
to say you are interested and/or put down your name on [the task sheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LImjI3OEnZjp3hjD5h7TXJ-kEwawnHnnVql6CjqgwRQ/edit#gid=1498393699)!
 * Answering the [Polyglots Team Interview Questions](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LImjI3OEnZjp3hjD5h7TXJ-kEwawnHnnVql6CjqgwRQ/edit#gid=0)
for your localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language
code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico.
A list of all locales supported by WordPress in [https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/).
We welcome multiple contributors from one locale to submit their own voice!
 * Sharing any locales or contributors who may be interested in being interviewed.

If you aren’t ready to jump in right now, don’t worry. We’ll make more calls for
help in the coming weeks as we have contents to be reviewed and workshops to test.
Just leave a comment with your interests, and we’ll get in touch!
