You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

A string freeze also means that there will be no more strings added to the core project. Sometimes a string freeze has two phases a soft freeze and a hard freeze. - Form questions are fixed & we are preparing a template post for rosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. site /news/ or /team/. The committee is considering renaming it to “Polyglots Translator Research” to avoid confusion with the WordPress survey

Translations: 205 (±0) total, 38 (+4) at 100%, 28 (-4) over 95%, 14 (±0) over 90%, 45 (±0) over 50%, 79 (±0) below 50%, 123 (±0) have a language pack generated, 1 (±0) have no project.

The number of releases is down, because of recent minor releaseMinor Release A set of releases or versions having the same minor version number may be collectively referred to as .x , for example version 5.2.x to refer to versions 5.2, 5.2.1, 5.2.3, and all other versions in the 5.2 (five dot two) branch of that software. Minor Releases often make improvements to existing features and functionality. with a stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings.: 5.5.2 & 5.5.3.
Please make sure past releases are 100% translated, v3.7-5.5 have been updated.

Mobile release timing

@psmits1567 asked when/how often mobile app translations are built into the apps. (later asked in #mobile Slack channel and received an answer:

A new version of the app is released every two weeks and the schedules can be found on GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ (WPiOS / WPAndroid)

The milestone is set on the day of code freeze and the release date is in the milestone description.
The new strings are sent for translation during the code freeze, so they show up in GlotPress within 1 day.
Release notes usually take a little bit longer for iOSiOS The operating system used on iPhones and iPads., we have to submit the app a few days before the actual release to Apple for approval. The submission date is in the milestone description as well.

While waiting for a string freeze, it’s a good idea to complete the translation of the Twenty Twenty One and Gutenberg pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party.

Twenty Twenty One theme itself is not yet in the directory, but the translation can be updated via the Force Update Translations plugin (thanks @jeroenrotty for the question & answer)

The progress is as described in the agenda. The next step is to post an announcement saying the research form is open + teams can help by reaching out to translators in their language.

The form will probably be open for a month from sometime next week or so, depending on how much time we need to tie all the loose ends.

The Polyglots Research form itself will be in English only, to avoid spreading them out. You can add the translation of the form questions to the post in /news/ or /team/ P2p2 "p2" is the name of the theme that blogs at make.wordpress.org use (and o2 is the accompanying plugin). When asked to post something "on the p2" by a member of the Polyglots team, that usually means you're asked to post on the team blog https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/..
