Translate WordPress

You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

Kananda 5.4.x

I’ve suggested translations for WordPress 5.4.x-Kannada, WordPress5.2.x-Kannada, OceanWP and would like to have them reviewed. I’d also like to become a PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves..

Dear Suresha,

Thank you for your interest in translating WordPress to #Kannada. I’m reviewing your translations. Please allow me sometime to connect back to you on this request.

Here are few of quick pointers to optimise your translations:
1. I would suggest you to avoid literal translations. You can look at the references added to translation to understand the context in which the line appears.
2. We need not translate some words and they can be typed directly in Kannada for easier transition for people to start using Kannada version of WordPress.
Ex: Network – instead of translating this to ಜಾಲ – better keep it as ನೆಟ್ವರ್ಕ್
3. Please change the language preference to Kannada in your wordpress installation and see how you can optimize the current and new translations for new language users.

I shall continue to review your translations further and help you make optimal contributions.

  Based on the reply from @omshivaprakash I’d say that you now have established direct contact, so I’m removing the “to-do” status of this request.

  Please translate only the top versions – for example – WordPress 5.6.x – Development. Considering the number of people translating – it has become very difficult to move the translations from one version to another. Also there are variations in the terminology used. Hence we have to start populating the glossary for commonly used words. You need search through the word usage to get the right words (at times the existing translations are displayed by polyglots as reference). Names and TAGs should be left out as is for better readability. Please do read the documentation for translation. Also I have made certain changes to OceanWP submissions you had made for reference. Translation for common words uniformity to be retained across the projects. That is an another major area for improvement. At this stage, I can add you as a PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. for Themes – OceanWP as your translations needs to be reviewed by a senior member before approving them directly into WP translations. Hope this gives you a chance to go through the translations, try it on the theme, fix it and review how it reads for yourself.
