You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

Any logged in use may suggest stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings.. But before these strings get marked as “current”, they need to be approved by someone, who knows the target language well.
Before I approved your post for publication, I added the tag for Icelandic #is_IS in order to notify the Icelandic translation team. They are listed in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/?locale=is_IS and unfortunately, they haven’t been very active lately (one needs to remember that we’re all driven by volunteer efforts).

Best of all, would still be if one of them could help you getting started. But if we get no reaction here, then you may need to read https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/inactive-translations/ regarding how to continue.

Egill, you have stolen almost 400 stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. of translations from me this morning and made them yours. You Egill has not translated anything for a long time and was with approx. 2600 strings and now you are, just suddenly this morning with over 3000 strings in translation. Is this a coincidence?

Thanks for your contribution. Try to calm down. That kind of setback may happen to everyone, but it doesn’t mean that nobody values your work.

We’ve got our general expectations on WordPress translations at https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/expectations/ and there are some agreed terms for Icelandic listed at https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/is/default/glossary/

If any style guide would be created (or perhaps has been created), I’d be happy to add a link for it at https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/tools/glotpress-translate-wordpress-org/list-of-glossaries-per-locale/

Some strings are longer and more complicated than even ten short/simple ones. And, unfortunately, the system works in such a way that if an editor changes anything in a stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. We’re just volunteers who cooperate, striving to collectively offer good translations of WordPress in a large number of languages. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. team of their own as a way to facilitate internal communication, including feedback and communication around the translations. The ones we in the global mentor team are aware of are listed in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/about/teams/local-slacks/.
It’s also possible to communicate to some extent via the global Slack team for WordPress contributiors, join via https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ and especially the channel “polyglots” although we mainly discuss general/global questions there.

  I’m almost reluctant to reply.
  
  I’ve been dealing with his wife via Facebook messenger, where they’ve been extremely rude and impolite.
  
  I was over the moon that someone is submitting stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings., it’s been a rather lonely task for the longest time. After reviewing +100 translations, I came to the conclusion that it was best to reject them all and ask them to submit them in a smallar batch. Didn’t get to that part, got sidetracked by the rude Facebook messages.
  
  I tried to give constructive feedback via messenger (clearly a big mistake). Suggested it was best for a first time contributor to start with a handful of strings, before diving in and submitting n-hundred strings.
  
  I ended up blocking his wife,.
  
  Sigh.
