  I’ve reviewed about half of #pl_PL translations that were awaiting. They were of varied quality. What I’m not super happy about is that the pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party author, @cozyvision1 really didn’t care all that much about how the content is written. So the original stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. are for example:
  - Sending rder
  - Differen SMS
  - Back in stock tries tosend SMS
  This isn’t not knowing English, this is being lazy. And so the translations are also lazy and looking poor in other languages (at least in Polish). Bad punctuation in the original? Yup, it’s in the translation.
  
  Fix your original strings before asking people to translate them and review them please. Otherwise we’re all just wasting time.

As you probably know, all translations at translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins. are made by volunteers. (Some contributors may be sponsored by someone, but that’s by far not always the case, especially when it comes to the General Translations Editors for each language.) Therefore, our volunteers translation editorsTranslation Editor Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. There are two different Translation Editor roles:
General Translation Editor and Project Translation Editor are interested in using their contributed time efficiently and effectively.

A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. - The pending translation was created with decent quality to start with (not just a blatantly uploaded machine translation, where the editor would spend more time fixing it, than the original “translator” spent preparing their “contribution”.
For this reason, here in the global blog we don’t follow up on requests to just “check pending strings”. But we do keep track of requests to assign PTE roles.

What you can do:
- Don’t try to generate translations to languages you don’t know. You’d be spending time in vain for yourself and for translation editors. And if your translation would be approved for any reason, then your product would look weird and/or be hard to understand for the end users.
- Ask users who have volunteered strings if they’d be interested in becoming PTE for your pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. You can @ mention them in a post in your plugin forum, for instance. If they’re interested in this, then you may suggest them as PTE in a post in this blog. But in many cases the translators themselves can simply contact their language team and ask for someone more experienced to check their translations and make them PTE. - In your plugin’s readme, in a sticky post in your plugin forum and/or in an admin page that is just for your plugin, you may place a call for volunteer translators.
Also: Please make sure that your plugin is well prepared for translation. While look at bad suggested strings for Swedish that totally disregarded the style guide and term glossary (ref. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/tools/glotpress-translate-wordpress-org/list-of-glossaries-per-locale/ ) I stumbled upon the following code sample:

1. Replace all occurrences of SmsAlertConstants::TEXT_DOMAIN with ‘sms-alert’. Right now, it still works, but some day translate.wordpress.org may become “smart” and only import strings where the text-domain is equal to the plugin slug.
2. Here you’re concatenating 4 translated strings. But you’ve got no guarantee that this phrase will feel natural in other languages, where a different order of the words would give a better flow. (In Swedish, for instance, we’d prefer to say something like “Give us a xxxxx rating if you like our plugin”). Some basic htmlHTML HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language. It is a markup language that is used in the development of web pages and websites. (especially formatting tags) is ok to have in strings for translation. (The translation platform even generates a warning if some html tag is missing in the translation!) Break out the rest (links, for instance) using variables and printf(). So a much better stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. to translate would be “If you like SMS Alert, please %1$sleave us a %2$s rating%3$s. Thanks in advance.“. Also make sure to add a comment before: //translators: 1. Link to write review 2. ★★★★★ 3. tag to close link
There are probably more things you could improve, this is just one I happened to see.

Some could be approved, but most were rejected. Some strings seem to be machine translated and a lot where translated with formal speech (“Sie”) instead of informal (“du”).

- Call for translators in the plugin readme
- Put a call for translators in the settings page of your plugin (if you put a notification in the general admin area, then it must be possible to dismiss it.)
- Put a call for translators on your own site.
