You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

GTE Request for bn_BD

Hi, I want to become a GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. of the bn_BD language to help to translate WordPress. I’m a native Bangla speaker and have well-versed knowledge in Bangla grammar. Contributed to translating WordPress and already a PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. for some plugins.

If there is any chance I can become a GTE and help with translations, I will be very happy.

Thank you so much for reaching out. I am working closely with Mehedi and we are connected on Facebook. I have reviewed some of his stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. and I believe he needs more time to understand the style we follow and how we would like to simplify things.

For example, we translate some words and transliterate some words in Bengali. This is something he still needs to improve. This is why I am still not positive about him.
After a couple of months, I hope he will be able to overcome this.

Moreover, I will wait for @tareq1988 and @wzislam‘s opinion on this. If they agree to add him as a GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. right away, I am okay with that too.

I know you guys are busy with things but it’s really not possible for someone to know his/her improvement area unless getting feedback! Unfortunately, I got only 91 approved till now among 250 suggestions and only one feedback from you.

It’s really not necessary to add me or any specific person as a GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale., the point is to get someone available to review the submitted translations. I’d love to see anyone who can manage time to review the translation and provide feedback. I just came forward and asked for the GTE as I found you busy.

At least, people like me who submit translations will know what’s they are doing wrong and where they need improvements if they get feedback.

Also, please do not prefer to transliterate in all cases(words). We need to keep using our own words to keep it alive, for our next generation. But also, I agree with you, we can consider some words that are not being used frequently in Bangla, but not all.

Our ultimate goal is to translate WordPress into Bengali as a volunteer.

Actually, as a GTE it’s not just approving stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings., have you ever seen why the GTEs are the most translation contributors? It’s not because they can approve their translations, it’s because we have poor contributors. In most of the translations (I’d like to say in every translation) we have to modify strings. And that’s time-consuming.

But you’ve raised a very good point, and I’d like to assure you, we’re on the same page too. The current GTEs are not giving much time, as everybody is busy, and that’s the truth. And we are also on the same urge. You would love to hear, we’ve shortlisted some of the contributors who have contributed well-enough strings, from where we reviewed their overall understanding and approved strings, and we’re on a discussion on whom to promote as a GTE.

Right now, I can’t give you any update on this, but we’re on the same process to resolve the issue.

BTW, I found some of your translations are good, and you have a very good thought:

I appreciate that, and we share the same philosophy as well. I will surely review some of your contributions and would love to say, don’t lose the passionate soul on contributing to Bengali translations.

As I mentioned in the DM, it’d be great if I could hear back about ways to improve the coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. translation progress for #bn_bd.

Maybe we (global mentors) can help with establishing a style guide with some rules and/or more robust glossary? If GTEs can guide other translators to improve the translation quality by showing examples and good practices, the extended team can work on more volume of translation.

Unless we hear back, we’d love to add @thebengalboy (and possibly others?) as a member of the team of GTEs/LocaleLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ Managers to work together on the style guide based on the existing translations.
