You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

The GTE (General Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. There are two different Translation Editor roles: General Translation Editor and Project Translation Editor,

I have translated WP Travel Engine into Hungarian and it would be nice if someone could validate it. By the way, I’d like to be an editor myself as well, if it is possible. I have some translation experience (about a decade), mainly from English into Hungarian.

about a year and a half ago I was made a GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. for Hungarian. (You can see the details above.)

As a former professional translator, I tried to do my best translating and improving several projects (and even began to create a Hungarian glossary). However, for some days I have to ask again for the approval of my translations of e.g. for WP Travel Engine where I was mad a PTEProject Translation Editor A Project Translation Editor (often referred to as PTE) is a person, who has access to validate strings on a specific project (for example BuddyPress, WooCommerce or Twenty Fourteen) for one specific locale. A project translation editor can approve strings that are added by translation contributors. Per project translation, editors are appointed by a general translation editor after a request by the project author or by the contributors themselves. as well. Thus, my GTE status is apparently over. (And even the PTE ones are over.)

Did I make something wrong or is it the usual process that one cannot be a GTE forever?

The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. team? I’d be glad to add a link to it in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/about/teams/local-slacks/
      Just make sure that email addresses in the domain @chat.wordpress.org are pre-approved, so that any user, who has joined the global Slack team for WordPress contributors via https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ can join without difficulty. If you want to discuss the how-to, why, various hints/suggestions, etc. around this, please ask in our global Slack channel “polyglots”.
